America
America.
It promises freedom, justice, and equality for all.
However, does it live up to the hype?
The hype on which its foundation was founded upon
The hype on which those who hear of it
Think of it as a haven.
A place where they can start brand new
Away from the troubles of war, racism, sexism, homophobia, and those who let hate consume their souls.
Or
Is America Just a Mirage?
An illusion for those who need a haven but instead they get a hell.
Where they don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
A hell where those who are supposed to protect them put them in the most danger.
A hell where everything that was promised was a...
Lie.
A lie that can easily be turned into a truth.
If we decide to uphold the values of freedom, justice, and equality
To make a better America.
Where the ideals of it truly live up to the hype.

I wrote this poem for school. It inspired by Amanda Gorman's poem at the inauguration of President Joe Biden. I have always loved writing stories and I believe that this poem is one of the best I have written.
