An Ode To All That We Knew
I found myself searching your eyes
for a fire that seemed to no longer ignite
Your detached glare looking for a space in which
I did not exist
The sound of silence rang upon
our ears and
held back both our tongues
Longing for your touch- miles distant
Only to feel your narrow eyes
staring straight through me
As the vibrant leaves shriveled to grey-
You became as dark as the days
that were consumed by night
And when blackness was the only time I’d have you
I searched space for a fire in hopes the stars could find me
the right words to say that I was looking for an existence
in someone else’s eyes
