Finding a Balance with Beauty
In this acrylic I chose not to give either of the women a race. Their skin tones consist of universal colors to describe a universal problem with women. All around the world people view beauty in different lights, some go to extremes to become thinner because they are conforming to the idea that thin is beautiful. Others in different areas of the world (such as in Bongo) go to great lengths to be big and beautiful. The reality is that conforming to these messages creates detrimental effects (hence the hourglasses in both womens' hands. I chose not to fill the hourglasses with anything to keep the effects of conforming to ideas of beauty up for interpretation.
