People want to know why I do this, why I write such gross stuff. I like to tell them I have the heart of a small boy... and I keep it in a jar on my desk.
-Stephen King :P
The trust of the innocent is the liar's most useful tool.
-Stephen King
Now that we're here,
It's so far away
All the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes,
One life contained
They all finally start to go away
Now that we're here its so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
I can forgive and I’m not ashamed to be the person that I am today

Awwww! O my gosh! This is amazing. The owl is so cute and the detail is wonderful. The eyes are my favorite. Have you ever tried drawing a horse or a tiger? I'm curious as to how that would turn out...haha

"Poetry and art are when you take decades of thought and condense it into a nifty little portable carrying case that people can see and go 'Oooh, Ahh'... and then forget about it. But what does it matter, so long as YOU remember it?" ~ Bela

Birds have never really been a drawing interest of mine... I like people better, I think. But I get fascinated with the varying textures on them, how feathers can make so many different feels. They're much more intriguing to me than fur. Thankyou!

Thanks so much for the comment. :D

And as for the textures, it's kind of hard to say since I did this over a year ago and no longer have the original. All I can say is that I did a light base layer on the darker feathers first and then just paid very close attention to the shadows to create the appearance of separate feathers and clumps of feathers. If you're using a photo, don't try to make up the shadows since they really help define the direction of the feathers, which makes them much more real than if they were uniform and flat. Other than that, it was just the work of pencil precision and some tissue-smudging. :)

It really is very lifelike. You have a great deal of skill. Just out of curiosity, how did you achieve the feathery textures? did you use any tools for smudging? Just curious. =]

This looks just like a real owl! I love the details. It looks like a real photo. I love how the eyes look glossy and the texture of the feathers.
