Sitting on top of the tallest building is one of the most peaceful things you can do, especially when it’s early sunrise. Watching the glass shine and hearing the horns of many cars on busy roads. The air up here is so much fresher and colder; It fills my lungs with its icy touch. I looked at the sunrise one more time and got on my feet, stretched and jumped off the roof. While falling I planted my feet on the wall and springboard off of it, and I landed on the next building and continue on to a sprint. An air duct was in my way, so I jump over it, put my hand on it and vaulted over so I can gain some more momentum. I tried some flips and roll and a lot of spins, I continue onto the next roof and onwards.

I finally reached the street and ran. I dodge everything that came towards my way, and a lot of those were people on their phone. I kept running until I made it to the edge of the strip where a black Challenger was waiting for me. I stop and knocked on the window, The guy inside rolled it down and said, “You done with your morning sprint?”

I didn’t reply to him until I got into the car. He looked at me and said, “why so quiet, did you sprain your ankle or something?”

I replied with, “Nah, I was just thinking to myself.” Matthew, my guardian at the time because my parents aren’t here right now. He was my dad’s best friend and a great person to be with. I saw my bag in the backseat, and I went to grab while I told Matthew, “Do I really need to go to school, can’t I just work with you.”

with a wise sounding voice, he said, “Ryan, education is important and you are too unstable to work with me anyway.”

I said with a hint of annoyance in my voice, “ But I can control my powers...”

I was interrupted by, “You almost killed my co-worker just because he made a joke.” I stayed quiet and looked away; That’s his fault, he knew he was being a dick.

We reach our destination, my high school, This place is pretty shitty, I never liked it. I got off the car and waved Matthew goodbye. I head up the steps and entered the lunchroom where I stop by the counter and got a carton of milk, white. I sat down to my usual table, alone, like always. I try to keep away from the other students because they are really annoying and if I get pissed off, I might accidentally hurt someone and Matthew ain’t going too happy about it. I started drinking my milk and watch over the other students.

Trying to see what kind of stupid stuff I can find. My school is filled with different types of idiots like the jocks who can’t spell and nerds who act like they are smarter than everyone, There’s more but I’m too lazy to list them off. I finished my milk and started to head towards my first period. I walk through the door into a hallway; I saw some couple of freshmen getting picked on by some seniors, not my problem I thought to myself and walked away. I should’ve walked faster because one of the seniors saw me and try to get my attention. I ignored him and kept walking until he ran towards me and said, “If you tell anyone we’ll make sure we will knock your ass out.” I shrug and kept walking, leaving him behind. He kept looking at me trying to make sure I don’t “snitch.” I walked into my first class which is AP biology, I looked inside and saw no one was in their so I went in and got near my desk and sat down.

I took out a notebook and saw all my notes about my skills and powers. Seeing what I can do. I just have doodles of a stickman doing flips and finding out that I heal quickly when I fell off the Stratosphere. Luckily I fell into an alleyway so people couldn’t see me. I also have the cliches shit like super strength and super speed. More students started to get in class and finally, the teacher made it in and greeted everyone with a good morning. He started writing things down the board and told us to take notes, and class has started.

I have been working on this book for three years and this a small preview on it and I just want opinions and feedback so I can make the rest of it better. I am a 15-year-old who has a dream to give kids and teens a hero to look up for and become like my hero Stan Lee.

@starfeather
Thank you so much for the advice and I will try to keep it more present tense but what do you mean about it being blunt or jarring

AD ASTRA PER ASPERA- to the stars, through difficulties.

I think you have a good start to something going on, but it could use some editing. There are some issues with the point of view going from past to present tense, and it makes the text choppy and hard to follow. Plus, you tend to present the information in sentence fragments and it just seems very blunt and jarring. I think this could really be something good but it should definitely go through some editing into a final draft.
