This is a beautiful beach. As I surveyed the land of the crystal clear sea and the lush island. Wait…. How did I get here??

“Hellllooooo!” my voice carried out to the sea and died away… No response.

I started scanning the tangibles of the island and what I had to work with.

“A lush forest, a small stream, a glass bottle, and a whole lot of ocean” I mumbled to myself. A glass bottle? I carefully walked over and examined the bottle that was shored up on the ocean’s bank. The searing summer sun’s rays blinded me as I picked up the bottle. Smooth and warm to the touch, nothing out of the ordinary. I suddenly noticed a little piece of paper.

“My salvation?” I asked the lonesome island. The feeling of old parchment and the crinkly sound came out of the bottle as I reached in to fish out the piece of paper.

“CRASH!” The glass shattered and scattered across the pearl white sand. A cold shiver ran down my spine. This, can not, be real. I do a double take and attempt to read what the old parchment said.

“I’m watching you”

The writing was written out in blood as more shivers quivered down my spine. I hurriedly glanced around the island to see who could’ve given me this horrifying note. It must be some prankster. I vainly attempted to reassure myself.

All of a sudden it hit me: I am currently in the middle of the ocean, with no idea how I get here, virtually no supplies, and on the same island with a potential maniac.

“Well there’s only one way to go” I told the trees. I decided it would be a good idea to trudge into the thick underbrush.

The sun was starting to set on the gorgeous island. I took a moment to take in the serene landscape and take a mental break from the strenuous and horror filled day I just had.

Shiver. I snap my head back to where I thought a pair of peering eyes were gazing in on me. There is no way that I’m alone on this island. I nonchalantly decided to stretch and go for a walk to inspect the area where I thought the maniac lay.

“Crunch” the leaves underneath my boots made a loud sound as I strode over to the location.

“ow.” a muffled voice said as my foot grazed some human flesh. I lept back 10 feet.

“Where in the world did you come from, and who are you?” I asked the maniac.

“I’m Humphrey, it’s nice to meet you.” As Humphrey slowly lifted himself up from the underbrush.

“I have a couple questions. Why were you watching me, and how did you get onto this island?” I asked the stranger.

“Man, who are you to be askin me all the questions? I woke up here a week ago and I’ve been trying to situate myself and you all of sudden just waltz along.” Humphrey told me.

“Well you got a camp?” I asked, getting straight to the point. Humphrey took a moment to ponder.

“Yeah, follow me.” A disgruntled Humphrey bregrugindly walked me to his pitiful camp. “It ain’t much, but it’s home.” Humphrey took a big whiff of a cigar laying on a stump.

“Where’d you get the cigar?” I asked Humphrey.

“...”

“Got anywhere for me to sleep?” I resorted to asking Humphrey

“I made a makeshift bed a while back, you could sleep here for the night,” Humphrey told me. I looked down at the pitiful little bed of twigs and leaves, and relucntantly lowered myself onto the shoddy bed. I closed my eyes and went to sleep almost immediately after that dreadful day.

I wake up face to face with Humphrey. I try to move my arms and legs, but they’re strapped in a log. I can feel my heart pounding and my legs throbbing as the circulation was cut off.

“What are you doing to me!” I yelled. I proceeded to scream on the top of my lungs.

“Why won’t you shut up,” Humphrey slapped me across the face as I dangled there, dazed. “I’m obviously preparing my meal for the day.” The cigar, the note, the stalking. It all came together in a flash. I then look down to see a pile of tinder.

“Time for dinner,” Humphrey chuckled.
