“The chemical is out! Someone has sabotaged the containment unit.”

The little man with glasses looked highly distressed as he told his news to the General. The General turned his head and paced for a moment, deep in thought.
“I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but there is no other option. Put this facility on lockdown, and start the self-destruct sequence. The work done here, must never be found out.”
“Like h---!” replied the man, “I’m getting up outta here.” He turned and ran for the door. BANG. A neat little hole appeared on the man’s forehead. His body slumped to ground as blood started to pool around him.
“You won’t be going anywhere,” said the General coldly as he walked to a door at the back of the room. This led to a long corridor, in which the General opened a strangely colored door. He walked through the door frame and faced an enormous computer. The General typed a code on the keypad.
“God forgive us for what we’ve done”

“Cut it out Markus!” yelled Venus as they walked through the forest.
“Come on Venus. Can’t you take a joke?” laughed Markus, “And slow down a little we’re leaving the group. KARA, ASHER, RENE, ANDY GET THE LEAD OUT, DAYLIGHT’S BURNIN’!”
“Get cha panties out a bunch. We’re right here,” said Asher.
As they continued forward, Andy saw a glint out the corner of his eye. He turned and looked dead at a camera.
“Uhh you guys….. you sure we’re allowed to be out here?” Andy stammered.
“Dude I told you to stop worryin’. My bro and his friends used to come out here all the time. There’s a lake and everything, you’ll love it,” stated Markus calmingly.
“I hope we get there soon, it’s so hot out here,” Rene said exhaustingly.
“Yea dude it’s hot out here,” said Asher.
“Uhh… guys I think I know where the heat is coming from,” said Venus in a hush tone as she pointed. Everyone’s eyes followed the direction she was pointing in. A giant fiery cloud hurtled toward them destroying everything in its wake. It was moving so fast that all the teens could do was watch and wait.
“Oh sh…” said Asher as the cloud encased him and his friends. Pain struck him first as the fiery burning gas seeped into his lungs and clouded his vision. As he fell into unconsciousness he realized that he was going to die. Then utter blackness

I liked it... especially for a beginning of a novel. Just wish there had been a little more explanation, but maybe that's your idea... to leave us a little bit confused and explain it as you go along. Love to read what you continue! (By the way, I think we're neighbors. Raleigh native also...)
