“So why no lights” I asked.

“Well, we ran out of torches.” My friend Dawn replied.

“So we’re just searching for “The Mad King’s Tomb” in the dark?” I said with the air quotes sure that a king could never have gone mad.

“Yeah, but we still got to be careful we don’t know what he brought to protect himself and his tomb.” A voice came from behind me.

“So any idea of how much farther?” I asked Keith who I knew was holding the map.

“Well, I’m sure I would know if we had some light.” He replied with a slightly annoyed at the fact there was no light.

“Why don’t we take a break and check if we have any other sources of light” Dawn asked.

“So I found this candleholder near the entrance of this place.” I said as I fished it out of my pockets.
“Well I got this candlestick.” Keith said as I heard the clanking of whatever was in his pack.
“Alright, and I have a lighter. Now we should have light.” Dawn said relieved that we wouldn’t have to travel in the dark anymore.

“So what exactly were we looking for?” I asked seeing that we now have the map.
“Well, we’re specifically looking for this gold statue. It’s on this obsidian pedestal thing” Keith replied.
“Well, we better hurry and find the statue.”

As we walked down what seems to be the final corridor we heard an odd clicking. It sounded like gears working in a clock. The floor erupted with spikes sharp enough to cut through me. As I backed away I could hear the air being cut as nidden arrows fly at the group. As I ran towards the door what seemed to be a lifeless statue in the corner began to rumble and the signs of age began to shake off. As quickly as it had activated it charged right towards me. I could feel the stone fist just nearly miss me. Running straight pass the statue I could see the grand door in front of me. I ran straight into the door hoping that it would open. To my dismay, nothing. The door didn’t even make a creak. All I did was injure myself. Now as I looked behind, all I could see was the statue and my friends separated by the spiked floor.
“Don’t worry, we’ll deal with this guy!” Keith shouted across the hallway.
“Just try and get that door to open” Dawn said in an encouraging voice.
I had to put all my faith that they would hold off the statue as I try to figure out how to pen the door.
As I surveyed the door, I noticed an extremely small lock on the door hence why I couldn’t get through the first time. Now I was in a state of panic. I had to find the key to the lock or we’ll be stuck here dealing with that statue. While I stood then a gleam of light broke the relative darkness. The light came from the back of the statue which Dawn and Keith we’re trying to deal. I knew it had to be the key. I charged with any energy I still had left and grabbed on to the statue’s back. The key seemed to be held on the back by a mold in which the key perfectly fit in. While I tried to pull the key out the statue had taken a notice to me and began to thrash about trying to get me off it. Quickly, I pulled the key out of it’s mold and jumped off it’s back. Instantly the statue stood still, in the position it was just standing in. It seemed the key was the power source of the statue. Walking back to the door I could feel a sense of relief. The key fit snugly into place and a loud click could be heard most likely signaling the opening of the door. As we walked through the door all of our jaws dropped. This was the final room. The ceilings felt like they could reach the sky, grand paintings of him and the royal family, anything a dead insane king could ever want. Even a painting dedicated to his pet chicken.
“Whoa, this place is amazing.” Keith said obviously captivated by the whole room.
“How are we going to find the statue in this place?” I asked looking at all the piles of gold objects and chests overflowing with them.
“This might be harder than getting through that door.” Dawn said already beginning to search the piles.

After hours upon hours of searching, we found nothing. I decided to take a break and walk around. While I admired the paintings I felt a sharp pain. Most likely I had stubbed my toe on an object laying around. As I looked down I saw a gold statue of the king himself standing of an obsidian pedestal. Almost jumping with joy I ran back to the others.
“GUYS, GUYS I FOUND IT!”
“You did?” Keith asked with a confused look as of why I was yelling so loud.
“Yeah, here look” I said passing the statue to Keith.
“Hmm, I guess we can go now. Lets go find Dawn.” Keith said relieved that he could finally go now.
“Did you find it?” Dawn said so focused on finding it that she didn’t even turn around.
“Yeah, we should go now since it’s gonna get dark soon.” Keith said in a slightly rushed tone.
As we walked out we could see the sun setting in the distance and a breath of refreshing air. All, I can hope is that this job helps us reach the spotlight as treasure hunters.
