She sat with her book open in front of her. The siren of a police car sounded downstairs. She ran out of the class. Down the stairs to the gate. She climbed into the police car. “Glad you could make it,” her colleagues said. The car sped off in hot pursuit of the criminals. She leaned out of the window, aimed her gun at the tyres. She squeezed the trigger and laughed grimly.
“Ms. Perera. What do you find so funny? Perhaps you’d like to share it with the class.”
She returned to her book open in front of her.
