Normally I wake up every morning at exactly 6:30 with a feeling of hunger. I then normally rush downstairs to eat breakfast. When I finished my breakfast, and went to put my plate in the sink, I almost threw it away in the trash instead.
When I get to school I look on the whiteboard at the front of the class and it says “Quote of the day: ‘You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...Until you climb inside his skin and walk around in it’-Atticus Finch.” A couple of seconds later the person who normally sits in the seat I was sitting in tapped my shoulder. His leg was broken and he was on crutches, but I didn't care. He tried to tell me to get up and just kept ignoring him.I push him over. Before I know it another boy gets up from his seat and I see a fist reaching my face. I hear a “Boom!” and suddenly everything in the room went black
I open my eyes to see someone hitting me and calling my name, but I can’t seem to get what is going on yet.
“Jimmy, Jimmy!” he yells. This man looks around the age of twenty  and is wearing a tan jacket with a patch  of the american flag embroidered on the right corner. I  am very confused and look around see where I am. Everybody is in military uniforms.“Am I dreaming,or dead?” I asked myself. Everything seems so old. The same man who woke me up hands me a gun.
“You ok, you don’t look so good” He says to me.
“Where am I?” I ask him.
“Stop joking  around man we can do that after the war  is over,” he says.
War! what is he talking about I was just in a classroom.
The man and I walk together and I finally figure out that we are on a ship, a battleship, and there are some smaller boats near it and we get on
I can’t figure out why so many of these men are able to be here at such a young age and still fight for their lives.
Me and the other guy get in one of the boats and a man starts talking.
“Ok men this it’s, 1944, June 6th,” the man says.
“1944, June 6th?! That's D-Day?” I  started to puke.
The boat begins to move
The man begins to speak“Ok boys we are almost the…”
A boom interrupts the man's speech and the water starts to shake and there are motor shells flying everywhere.
The sound is so loud. In the mix I can hear men screaming and then bullets start to hit our boat. I hear another “boom!” and the sound of bullets whizzing past our heads. I have to get out of here. Then the door opens and the bullets start flying at us. The first bullet hits someone in front of me and I just jumped.  I see Billy starting to run.
“Move, move get to cover” the man says.
By the time we get out of the boat I take a look around there are bodies everywhere and this is what keeps me running at full speed. I take cover in a ditch with Billy and he is shooting at an extensive wall. Our Lieutenant  starts to run at the wall

We follow behind, running to the side of the wall so we can attack the germans from the side.“Boom!” I hear a shell hit the ground and I go flying. I look Billy is dead on the sand. Bullets start to fly near me and I just want to give up and die, but I can’t. Billy saved my life and I'm going to kill the assholes who did this to him. I start running with nothing in my hand but a knife.
Then all of a sudden I trip and fall, and I’m in a long, narrow ditch. I hear footsteps getting closer and closer. Then there he is. A German soldier ready to kill me. He sees me and then pauses for a moment. I can see his face and he is young. The points the gun at me. I’m almost there. I lay there and accept my death. I ask God to forgive me for all my sins.  All of a sudden I hear screaming in German. The boy who was about to kill me stops, looks at me and smiles and then runs away. I hide and wait.
After a few hours, all I can hear is silence.. I get out from cover and see american troops.
There are bodies everywhere. American troops and Nazi troops. I start to think if that boy is still alive. I did not understand at all why he smiled and turned away from the enemy in the middle of combat. I realize that the boy might have thought I was innocent and didn't kill me because he knew I couldn’t do any damage to him. Before I know it starts to get dark and soon enough I fell asleep on top of the shell.
When I wake up, I find myself lying down on a wooden floor. When I look up I see Dave. The boy whose fist was coming at me the last time I was in the same spot.
“Am I alive?” I whispered.
“What?” Dave asked.
“ I am alive!” I screamed.
Everybody looked at me.. I look over at the boy with a broken leg. Andrew was his name I remembered. He had a really sad expression spread across his face. “Why did I even touch him?” I thought. “The poor boy never did anything to me.” Right then and there I vowed to myself to always try and put myself in other people’s shoes. From that day forward I never harmed anyone who didn’t do any damage to me or anyone else.
