The faint sound of car horns, mumbles of people passing by, and the big city coming to life are just some of the sounds you can hear waking up on the upper east side. As one of Manhattan’s finest pulls the satin sheets off of her body and rubs the sleep from her eyes, the nanny, Dorota, greets her with a cheerful “good morning” and offers her a breakfast fit for her station, served on a silver platter. This fairytale morning is how this born drama queen starts every morning of her picture perfect life on the Upper East Side of New York City. Feeling refreshed and pampered, she’s ready to take on her day of ruling the school as “Queen B”. From an early age this ambitious brunette, Blair Waldorf, made it her mission to be the ultimate “it” girl and spends every waking moment doing whatever it takes for her to maintain her perfect image.

For Blair the halls of Constance Billard were comforting. It was the place she got her start as Queen B, and where she maintained her control every day after. However the halls were not always so nice to those below her reign. For them this is where they would be humiliated for wearing the wrong accessory, or even worse, for crossing their fearless leader. Being on top of a high school hierarchy is not something most people dream about, but Blair felt she was born for greatness and this was where she would get her start. With her team of “minions”, as she liked to call them, she was always ready for anything those below her in the hierarchy could come up with to try to take her down. No matter how vicious the ‘it’ girl was, every girl wanted to be her and every guy wanted to be with her. This feeling of being attractive and wanted fueled this Queen’s need for control. She became the ultimate manipulator and was constantly scheming in order to get what she wanted. Everyone knew Blair Waldorf, but very few people knew the girl behind the crown.

Blair was born to be great and successful, but her rage and need to be the best was fueled from deep insecurities about herself. She seemed to have the perfect life from the outside, but inside she felt that she was always living in the shadows of others. Her need to rule over the girls of Constance came from her feelings of being seen as inferior to her best friend, Serena. Blair constantly felt that she had to crawl her way out of Serena’s shadow and by controlling the school, she could pretend that these insecurities weren’t even a thought in her mind. Not only did these feelings of insecurity turn her into the ultimate mean girl, but forced her to never leave her future up to fate. Instead, Blair poured all of her energy into guaranteeing that she get what she wanted. No matter how big the scheme, or how many people she would hurt in the process if something could be done nothing could stop this elitist. Blair’s tendency to need  constant control over every aspect in her life made this privileged young woman seem to be fridged and harsh. Those who she actually let in past the hard exterior saw Blair for what she really was, an independent and strong young woman.

Blair Waldorf, the ultimate it girl and queen of the upper east side, is more than just the hard exterior she portrays herself as. Although her ambitions usually get the best of her, that ambitious attitude is the same thing that makes her so unique and interesting. When Blair set her mind to something nothing can stop her until she feels accomplished. The need to control someday will be a great aspect when she’s in charge, and with her determination she will ensure she becomes the boss one day.
