Lauren Name Essay
Lauren is a Latin name meaning “a place of laurel leaves” or “victory of wisdom”. A laurel wreath, made from interlocking branches, was awarded to those who rose victorious in the Greek Games. My name is not just six letters strung together to form syllables. My name symbolizes triumph and success. My name represents strength and glory.
My name was my grandfather’s and has been passed down to me like a treasured family heirloom. The only thing altered was the spelling. When his name was written, the “O” in Loren appeared too harsh to be given to a girl. Lauren looks prettier written in cursive and the pen glides gracefully against the paper when you write the letter “L”.
My name is easy to pronounce. I’ve never met a single soul that has struggled saying my name. My mother’s is similar to mine, Laurie. Laurie doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily, it is more sophisticated. It is fitting for her, she is a business woman. Lauren is more like the way the colors blend during a summer sunset. My name is carefree like birds flying aimlessly.
When I was younger, I longed to change my name. I hated it. It was too common and overused .My name is like a blank canvas longing for an artist, craving something more. It is plain, but I’m not plain. I wanted so badly to crumple it up in a paper ball and try again. I dreamed of being named something elegant like Samantha or Katherine. A name delicate like a teacup, but yet refined. There were too many Laurens for me to become one as well.
The acceptance came gradually. I have discovered I am my own artist. I am more than my name. I can take the paint brush and do as I please. I will make my own masterpiece from a blank page. I will do my name justice.
