Math Class
I had the worst summer ever so I could not wait until I started school, and got to see my friends again. I woke up, ate my favorite meal, and then got dressed. On my way to school I had to stand the whole way, so I was angry. I arrived to school at 7:50, giving me just 10 minutes to get to my first period class. Math! It is my favorite subject which I loved so much.
I walked in the classroom, and the teacher greeted me, and told me her name, “Ms.Jones.”
I said, “Hello,” and walked away to find a seat.
The teacher then asked, “Have you guys learned pre-algebra?”
We all said, “Yes.”
“Did you learn algebra 1,” Ms. Jones asked in her slow, distant voice.
Everyone said, “No.” Except for me.
Ms.Jones came to the seat where I was sitting and said, “Did you already complete algebra 1?”
I said, “YES!” I was hoping to get switched to different and more challenging math subject. She then said something that changed my entire mood.
“Ok, so the thing is, I’m not really good with algebra, or math period. So, I need you to teach the class, and also teach me. Do not tell anyone.” She said this like it was normal.
“Um wow.” I said to her. “I thought you were going to switch my math class. I didn’t know you wanted me to teach, but I do not know if I can take this offer. I will have to speak with my parents first. What is in it for me? Does this have to be confirmed with my parents or administration? I wonder what they will think about me teaching a class, while I am in school. That seems kind of weird, but who knows, maybe this will work or maybe it with not. Anyways, so um, why did you take this math job if you are not good at math? ”
I called my mom and she answered.
“The teachers wants me to teach the math class.”
I told the teacher what my mom said to me, and she started to cry. I felt really bad for her, it was like she just got hit really hard.
She said to me, “ I went to college to be a teacher, and I know how to teach. I’m just not good at math because….”
