In the beginning, all people belonged to the Moth Tribe. They lived together in a beautiful Garden in the Sky, where everything was made of pure light. Everyone followed Meeraj the Perfect and her Path. She was brilliant, and all could feel her blinding radiance. All humans were drawn to her and adored her, as she was the mother of all that was good. They lived together in an endless day, and all they knew was love and harmony, as no one had any need for thoughts and desires of their own.

Sometimes Meeraj would lead everyone out of the garden and down into the world below. She would lead the people in one song, and creatures of all kinds came out and sang with them. Trees and plants would sprout from the ground, swaying to the rhythm of their music. Birds, bears, beasts of all sorts were bound in one voice. They danced in unison and shook the earth, creating mountains and rivers. Wonderful lakes rose from beneath the earth, dazzling all with their beauty. Then the people followed Meeraj to the Garden in the Sky and shared bread and wine, while Meeraj read stories from a great book of certain truths. Once they were done, they rested until Meeraj led everyone down again, and the cycle began anew. Meeraj told everyone that as long as anyone did not stray from her Path, all would be good. All obeyed her, and all was good.

One day a man called Wyrm appeared from below as they were resting and began to whisper that he would show them the truth.

He said to them: “You have all been so blinded by her light that you cannot see the darkness in the world. Let me show you what you may not want to see.”

Some of the men were curious and convinced the women to follow them. It is said that this is why people are foolish and men more so, as they could not resist Wyrm’s call. So as Meeraj led the rest down to the earth, Wyrm opened their eyes and showed them a new Path, a true one. The world was dark and cold. They saw that Meeraj was not radiant, but a strange, unfamiliar figure. When Meeraj and her people sang, all were chained to a dissonant melody. They were helpless to violent creatures that appeared from the noise and ate some of the people. As the tribe cavorted, they saw dark storms form, raining terror from the skies. And when they returned to the garden, they saw that Meeraj was feeding them flesh and blood, and reading them a book of lies. The love and harmony felt twisted in their minds, and the people were afraid. When Meeraj saw their fear, she knew that they could see her form and was disappointed.

She said to them: “Your fear has poisoned our Garden in the Sky. Cursed are you all for not listening to my command! Because of your blind faith in that Dark One’s words, the trust between us has now been broken forever. The days of mankind will now be numbered and filled with misery. Only by being faithful, good, and true until the end of your days can you hope to see me again.”

She then banished them to the world below, and the Garden became the sun. In the day, it would forever remind humans to follow the Path. Meeraj created the moon to hide Wyrm. In the night, it would remind people of what had been lost. The people that were faithful to her became the stars, watching over the moon so that Wyrm could not reveal any more truths. The people became divided into those that continued to follow Meeraj and those that saw the truth of her corruption and chose to face the real world in its chaos. The choice of the Path has from then on divided and united us all: so it has been, so it is, and so it will always be.

I modeled this allegory after a traditional creation story, with the topic of religion in mind.
