The Swing Set

On a cold and lonely night, 3 teenagers were taking their nightly stroll around the neighborhood. “Hey guys, you think we should go check out the abandoned barn?” One of the boys asked.

“Nah, we have no lights on us, and plus, nobody has gone in there for years.” One of the other boys said.

“What Darrel, are you scared or something?” One of the boys questioned.

“No no, i’m not, believe me.” Darrel said.

“Well if you aren’t, then lets go.” The other boy said. Darrel rolled his eyes and followed his friends. “Here it is boys, the old barn.” The leader of the group said as he looked up at the barn.

“So, who is going in first?” Darrel asked.

“Well since you’re such a scaredy cat, and Tyler has barely said anything this whole time, i’d say Tyler.” The leader of the group said.

“Oh come on Dave, this is a personal attack on me!” Tyler said.

“Relax Tyler, you’ll be fine, now, get to steppin’.” Dave said as he shoved Tyler inside. Tyler looked around the inside of the barn. There were tons of cobwebs and hay scattered all over the place. Tyler took a few steps further into the barn and suddenly, stepped on something hard. Tyler looked down and noticed there was a book on the floor.

“What the heck is this thing doing in the middle of a barn?” Tyler said as he brushed off the book. The front cover of the book had no words on it, just some weird eye looking thing. Tyler picked up the book and headed outside.

“Tyler, did you see any ghosts that would make Darrel over here wet his pants?” Dave asked. Darrel rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

“Nah, but I did find this weird book in the middle of the barn.” Tyler said as he held it out to show. Dave snatched the book from Tyler’s hands and looked at it.

“Seems stupid, lets trash it and leave.” Dave said. Dave chucked the book into a nearby ditch and walked away. Tyler looked at the book as he felt drawn to it. Tyler walked over to the book and picked it up out of the ditch, brushing the mud off of it and putting it in his bag. “So, where should we go next?” Dave asked. Tyler and Darrel didn’t respond as they didn’t seem to really care anymore. “Ok fine, how about we go to the park.” Dave said as he marched in the parks direction. Tyler and Darrel looked at each other and shrugged as they followed Dave. Dave had stopped dead in his tracks, as he looked at the creepy sight.

“Hey Dave, what has your pants in a pickle?” Darrel asked. Darrel looked at the park and noticed the swing on the swing set swinging back and forth at a constant speed.

“That’s odd, I don’t think anybody would be swinging on a swing set this late at night.” Tyler said.

“Maybe we should stick around to see if it stops.” Darrel recommended. After a few minutes of waiting, the swing was still swinging at the same speed.

“Well, i’m officially ready to leave and never go to this park ever again!” Dave blurted out.

“Why, you were all large and incharge back at the barn.” Darrel said.

“Yeah, but what we are witnessing, is kind of sort of, i don’t know...IMPOSSIBLE!” Dave replied. Dave looked over at Tyler as he saw him reading the book from earlier.

“Tyler, why are you reading that dumb book?” Dave asked. Tyler was too mesmerized by the book to care about what Dave was saying. Annoyed that Tyler was ignoring him, Dave walked over and grabbed the book.

“Hey, give that back man!” Tyler yelled.

“Ok, then go get it!” Dave  yelled as he chucked the book into the road. Right as Tyler was about to get up and get it, a passing car drove by and in the process ran over the book. “See what you did, now it’s ruined!” Tyler yelled.

“I don’t know why you even care about that thing, it’s a stupid book, what’s so good about it?” Dave said triumphantly.

“Hey uh guys, you may want to take a look at this…” Darrel said as he pointed to the swing set. Tyler and Dave looked over at the swing set and their eyes widened. The swing had stopped dead in its tracks.

“Ok, i’m done, see ya guys tomorrow!” Dave yelled as he grabbed his bag and walked away. As Dave walked across the street, he noticed the book was in front of him. “Gosh! Can’t this stupid thing just go away!” Dave yelled as he kicked the book into the curb. Dave looked back at Tyler and Darrel. “You guys coming?!” Dave yelled. Tyler and Darrel stood still with no response. Dave let out a groan and walked back over to Tyler and Darrel. “Yo guys, wakey wakey!” Dave said. Tyler and Darrel remained frozen like statues. Dave grabbed Tyler by the shirt and tried to drag him away. But he wouldn’t budge. “What the heck..” Dave said. Dave backed up a few feet and then rammed into Tyler, Tyler didn’t flinch or move a muscle. “Great, now my friends have turned into statues! Whoever is responsible, please reveal yourself.” Dave yelled. Dave got no response at all. As Dave was about to leave, he heard the creeking of the swing. Dave slowly turned back as the swing was swinging once again, only this time, someone was on it.
