Oh my gosh! What was that? My closet door just opened! Very slightly, but it’s still something. When it opened, I saw an eye peeking out and I ran as fast as I could to my parent’s bedroom, and just started freaking out that there is a monster in my closet!

“Honey there is no such thing as monsters, but let's go back to your room and check ok?” My mom said as she slowly crawled out of bed.

So me and my mom went back to my room and I went to go sit on my bed, while my mom checked the closet. She opened the door, there was nothing there. She moved my clothes, nothing was there.

“See Everleigh no monsters you have nothing to worry about.”

I don’t understand. I might only be eight years old, but I know what I saw. There wasn’t just nothing. There was an eye!

“But mom I saw an eye peeking out!”

“You probably just imagined it. Monsters don’t exist and believe me I know. I thought there was a monster in my closet when I was your age and my mom checked my closet and found nothing too.”

“Ok I guess you are right. Maybe it was my imagination. I will just try to go back to bed thanks mom.”

“Of course sweetheart. Goodnight I love you.”

“Love you too.”

As my mom left my room I started to wonder if it wasn’t an eye, then what was it? How can my imagination be so realistic. I saw a physical eye. Yes, I might have been scared of the dark my whole life, but there was something there. I’m going to figure this out because I just can’t believe my mom there must have been something there.

The next day I went to school and I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. I told my best friend Jasmine about it and she just looked at me as if I was insane. She was just like my mom. No beliefs or scared of anything. How could that be? She really doesn’t understand me. Come on we are eight years old for god sakes! We should have an active imagination all the time. Not saying my monster was an imagination, but overall.

Oh boy, I didn’t mean to scare her last night I just wanted to see if she has fallen asleep. I hope I didn’t scare her too much I just want to be friends. But she won’t want to I’m hideous and she can’t. Maybe she will understand? NO! Blaze what are you thinking! You said you don’t want to scare her. She is only a little girl who wants some sleep. I need to stop thinking about this. I’m covered head to toe in thick green fur, I have an enormous nose, and my face is slimy, sometimes. I also have these sharp claws on my hands. Not only could I hurt her mentally, but physically too. Now as for my feet, that is another disgusting thing about me. They might be bigger than my nose. Also, my toenails might be sharper than my claws. I really don’t want to scare Everleigh again. This is the first time in three years she has seen me. I’ve moved with her and her parents to each of the two houses they have all lived in. This little girl has been my best friend since she was five years old and she has no idea.

While I was sitting in my room doing homework after school, I started to wonder: monsters don’t come in the day, right? At least I hope they don’t. I really need to stop stressing. I might have a heart attack at the age of eight that would not be pretty. I can not believe I might go to the hospital because of a monster.

“Hi honey how was school?” As my mom said entering my room.

“School was good.”

“Ok I just wanted to let you know that dinner will be ready in ten minutes ok?”

“Sounds good I will be downstairs in ten minutes.”

I finished eating and rushed upstairs to get ready for bed. I took a bath, brushed my teeth, and hopped into my comfy pink bed.

“Goodnight my love sweet dreams.” My mom said before she left my room.

Ok tonight is the night I will overcome my fear. I will not back down or let fear be in my way. As my room slowly got darker my heart started to pound even more. All I could focus on was my closet door. I left it open just slightly so I was able to see inside. Now I wait.

It has been over an hour now and still no sign of the monster. I realized I had to go to the bathroom. I didn’t want to take my eyes off that door, but if nature calls I have to go. So, I went to the bathroom and left as fast as I could. When I jumped back into bed I heard something. Something was moving in my closet.

“Hello is anyone there?”

No one answered. Ok this is it time to face my fear. I slowly walked towards the closet door, took a deep breath in, and flung open the door. THERE! A MONSTER I WAS RIGHT!

“Please don’t scream, I don’t want to hurt you.” The monster said.

“My name is Blaze and I am your monster that watches over you.”

I looked at him and he wasn’t scary at all. He looked as if he were a big green teddy bear.

“Hi, I’m Everleigh it is nice to meet you.”

“Wait, you aren’t scared?”

“Oh please, you remind me of a big green teddy bear.”

“What a relief I thought you would be scared. I guess I was wrong.”

“How long have you been in there?”

“Well, I have been watching over you since you were five years old.”

“Wow! That’s a really long time.”

“Yeah but it hasn’t been so bad. I like making sure you are safe at night.”

“Thank you for always protecting me.”

“Your welcome, well now I must go.”

“Wait, when will you be back?”

“I can’t come back.”

“I don’t understand, why can’t you?”

“I’ve only been here because you were scared of the dark, and now that you have faced your fear it looks to me like you don’t need me anymore.”

“But, I want to be friends.”

“We will always be friends. Best friends in fact. Please keep this so you will always remember me forever.”

He handed me a beautiful sparkly, heart shaped necklace. It was the most gorgeous piece of jewelry I have ever seen.

“Goodbye Everleigh, I will miss you forever and always.”

“Goodbye Blaze I will never forget you.”

That night was the last time I ever saw Blaze. Even though he might be gone I will never forget him. I will wear the necklace he had given me forever and always.
