Like a flower, humans start off small, special, full of potential. Our parents plant us in our ground, our environment, our home. They nurture us, they take care of us, help us grow and learn. Like a flower, we start to bloom and reach for the sun, for warmth and comfort. Like a flower we blossom full and pretty, live our days in our full potential. Like a flower, we wilt, we die, we fall. Like a flower we are sometimes taken into a new location, where we either continue to flourish for a while, or we slowly turn dark, and wilt away. Like a flower. We are beautiful.

Unlike a flower, we have choices. We dictate how we react to certain situations, how we live our life. Unlike a flower we can speak. We can use our voice, words, and wisdom to guide others, to change the world. Unlike a flower, we can walk, move. We can travel, see the world, lay our eyes on beautiful structures and scenery. Unlike a flower we have emotions, brains, unique thoughts. Unlike a flower. We have hope.

But like a flower, we are often mistreated. Kicked around, called mean, awful things. Like a flower, we can be only known for our looks. Sit still, look pretty, shut you’re mouth, don’t speak. Like a flower we can be hated. We can be looked down upon and hear some of the worst things we can ever hear. Like a flower, we can be discriminated upon. You are this…so you deserve this. Like a flower, we can be used. In ways that we should never be used. Like a flower, we can hurt others. Our thorns sharp. Like a flower we can be taken away. We can lose the people we love and care about sooner then expected Like a flower. We hurt.

Humanity and flowers: beautiful, hopeful, and hurting. Humanity and flowers. So different, yet so alike. But one thing that remains common between both?

            Humanity and flowers, remain kind.
