August 2022 Fiction Contest: Date Night
With a bag slung over one arm and the other around me, Helena stepped out of her car and walked toward her front door. Seeming to remember something, she changed course and went to the garage.
“5, 8, 13.”
We entered her house through the garage. It was a normal night, except this time she did not take me straight to her bedroom. Instead, she left me in the room adjacent.
“I will be back, love.”
I thumped my foot on the floor.
A while later, she returned with a litter box, a bowl of water, and a tray with pellets.
