The Rabbit In My Backyard
It happened in the middle of Saturday afternoon while I was slicing strawberries to put in my yogurt. I saw a lonely rabbit outside through the sliding glass door that leads to my backyard. I put the knife down and grabbed one of the freshly cut strawberry slices. I opened my sliding door and steadily walked outside into my backyard. I carefully approached the rabbit making sure not to frighten it. The rabbit eventually saw me and quickly jumped a few feet the opposite direction. I stopped as I didn't want to make it feel threatened. I held my hand out with the strawberry in it and patiently waited for the rabbit to come closer. It took a few minutes as the rabbit was very skeptical, but it eventually came and ate the strawberry out of my hand. The next day I repeated the same procedure. I put the knife down, went outside and fed the rabbit. I kept this routine for the next few weeks. Me and the rabbit became very fond of each other.
Sunday was like any other day I woke up came downstairs and started slicing the strawberries, but this time the rabbit came to me. I was shocked. The rabbit was waiting outside my sliding door impatiently like it wanted to come inside. I finished cutting the strawberries and immediately ran to the door. I felt bad for making it wait so long. I opened the door and that’s when I blacked out...

I woke up confused not knowing where I was at. I had a very strange taste in my mouth. I looked outside. It was night time. I was still inside my house. That’s when I remembered the rabbit and the strawberries I was going to feed it. I looked around for the rabbit I couldn't find it anywhere. All I saw were these weird shaped objects that kind of looked like bones of an animal. That's when it clicked in my head what I had done. I didn't panic, I didn’t scream or cry, I felt nothing. I slowly walked towards the bathroom and looked into the mirror. “Why? Why? Why?” I repeated, but I got no response. The monster never talks to me.
