Things were different then; more savage people’s lives were played for sport, Virtue was a word unheard of. Cleo’s dress flowed behind her in the wind; her mind was racing as she walked towards her fate. Today was that day, the day it would end. She would have to give up her entire life to a world she did not care for and a man she did not love, and put on a smile she could not bear. This man she now has to marry will not only become her ruler but the father of her children. Her heart is beating like humming birds wings as she approached the door. Standing outside the door she calmly; as a princess of Egypt should enter a room, head bowed; low and graceful standing straight and quiet.
“Hello my darling.”
“Hello father.”
“Come sit sweetie, meet Pysithiclys!”
Cleo’s father was a loud boisterous man, with a belly as large as a mountain. Cleo Proceeded into the room with as much grace as she could possible muster over to Pysithiclys. She bowed once again and he reached for her hand kissing it as he should.
“Hello my darling”
“Hello Pysithiclys”
“I am looking forward to our engagement”
“As am I Pysithiclys”
“I am Pleased Sweet Cleo”
“Well now that the two of you have gotten a chance to meet I think it’s time that Pysithiclys and I have a chance talk” “Yes father r Pray excuse me “
Cleo Bowed and exited the room, when she was in the hall she ran to her room. She wanted to cry but she knew she couldn't so instead she walked to her pond and watched the lotus float on the surface of the water. She bowed her head and prayed; she Prayed for relief and hope. That night they had a grand feast of Roast Pheasant; many fruits and vegetables from the royal garden; along with fathers best wines brought up from the cellar. The feast was in honor of Pysithiclys and his family. His father was the complete opposite of Cleo’s father he was a skinny rat of a man; his nose longer than his face was wide. His mother like his father was the complete opposite of my mother. Where my mother was skinny and graceful with golden skin with long silky charcoal black hair his mother was a short plump woman with quite fair skin for living in Egypt; she had choppy grey streaked black hair. Cleo could not enjoy herself for she could only think of the pain and suffering that was ahead of her. The wedding would only be in 3 days and if she didn't make all the preparations father would be furious and he would have to pay double the dowry. Cleo excused herself from the feast and rose off her pillow and went to get her maids to start the preparations; flowers, drapes wines, dishes, food, seating entertainment, music. Cleo was happy she had her maids to help her. She wasn't a cruel woman to her slaves, she had even grown to love them; It wasn't until her wedding day that everything changed. Cleo woke that night in a dead sweat, crying her maid came running to console her; but there was nothing she could do. Petrified Cleo prepared for her wedding and everything went as planned, except she didn't love the groom; but her birth rights” decree that she didn't have a choice. She sat there fixing her hair, thinking about her dream, about her life and about her future. She knew it was time even before the knock came at the great chamber doors. Soon her fate was going to be sealed. It was a long walk to the alter yet Cleo’s mind for the first time that day was as clear as the bright blue sky. Pysithiclys was adorned in the traditional cotton kilt of the ages with a golden silk sash belt. My father had given him the finest gold for this day; but that still didn't make the sun shine any brighter for her. She went through the motions; blind to the world around her. After the wedding there’s to be a feast and a celebration. That s the part she feared the most, after the celebration her life was over. She sat at the customary seat and did what she had been taught and prepared for her whole life. The Pheasant was succulent and well seasoned and the potatoes were perfect. Cleo was in her third bite of pheasant when she began reaching for her wine a sudden gust of wind blew through the temple; it wasn't the normal kind of wind. Cleo stood up placing her hand in front of her face she saw what it was. Bugs landed on the food and in people’s mouths; it was a locust. It swarmed over her family and devoured them; they avoided Cleo like she was Anubis himself. After only a few minutes there was nothing left of those she loved; Cleo was alone. She fell to her knees and whispered,
“What caused the gods to fall upon my family like lions in a roman arena?”
She sat sobbing for hours; on the day that changed her life forever. Cleopatra was the new Queen of Egypt and she had no room in her heart for anyone or anything. On this day Queen Cleopatra became one of the most ruthless rulers Egypt has ever known.
