Peer Pressure

Walking around the edge of a lake I hear someone laughing “hurry up and jump in, it’s so much fun here!” I don’t want to because it is a cold and cloudy day. “Just do it! It’s warm in here, plus if you do, you can come hang out with us.” That sounded nice, it was lonely standing here alone and the lake was empty for miles around. “Yeah, don’t be a wimp just hurry up and jump in.” Another voice added. I looked around to see where the voices were coming from and for the first time I spoke “where are you guys? I’ll jump in now if that means I can hang out with you guys! ” I jumped, the world around me spun, I could hear laughing all around me. Then I landed, it was freezing. I was sinking and the voices went silent as if they were never there in the first place. I did this to myself I shouldn’t have listened to them. I started struggling, but it felt as if I was being pulled down. I made it out and ripples on the water disappeared as if they were never there. I walked away from the lake alone, freezing, and wet.

I wrote this set piece to practice using dialogue to show and add theme into my story. I like that my piece doesn’t have the most interesting message, but it can be important to all people since everyone has experienced peer pressure where people will do anything to be accepted even if it’s not good for them.
