I don't wanna hurt another. I don't wanna feel the pain I see you goin through. And if I had another chance, I would make the best of it. Not to kill but be a friend. Not to end but save another life. Never meant to hurt you. never meant to PULL THE TRIGGER NOW! You ask me, "why am I here?" I say, "becuase I love you. Because you are meant to be my wife, to mother our children, to grow old with me, to be with me forever, if you choose to be." You ask me, "why are you here?" I say, "because I killed a man, but I was wrong. I'm a different person now. And if I had another chance, I would make the best of it. Not to kill, but be a friend. Not to end but save another life. The author's comments:
I sat down after a firght with my girlfriend, and started writing. The main focus of ther song is doing something differently if you had another chance. That was how I felt after this fight because I said something very stupid, and if I did have a second chance at the conversation, I would have thought more before I said what I did. The song takes on two different characters, who are both male. One is in a fight with his girlfriend, and the other is in prison, on death row. I thought that it was a different perspective to write a song like this, with two people feeling the same emotions, but in two entirely different situations.
