How My Life Changed in the Blink of an Eye

“Honk, Honk”, the buss’s horn makes me jump and roll out of bed. I jump to my feet; I grab a pair of shorts and run out the door. The buss zoomed off, right as I stuck my head out the door. I see my friend James and his mom driving past my house. I flag them down, and ask if I can have a ride. I jump in the car, and we drive off.

We are zooming down the high way at about 80 mph, it’s about one minute until 8:00 am, James asked his mom, “Aren’t we going too fast?” She replies with a shrug. Thirty seconds before 8:00 a.m., there is just some small talk going on, but the second the clock hits 8:00 o’clock, the car ten feet in front of us stopped dead in the road! James’ mom reacted, but not quickly enough. We slammed into the back of the car, and my life flashed before my eyes. We flipped three times and I was in the front seat - my left arm - crushed between the door and the dash. We flipped on top of the car in front of us. Each time a new car would slam into the pile up, we would be tossed about like rag dolls. All at once three cars hit the pile up. James was in the back seat when his seat belt snapped plunging him through the windshield shattering glass everywhere! The glass flew into my eyes making them bleed instantly. Because my arm was crushed, I could not pick the glass out.

I stick my head up, and I don’t see James. Then as I try to focus my eyes, I see is a tattered leg dipping blood in my lap. I cry for help with no answer as I pass out. No one finds me for five hours. I have lost a great deal of blood. As I come to, I slowly start hearing a booming voice “you’re lucky to be alive, son”! I try to open my eyes, and as I feel for them I feel nothing but bandages. I feel for my arm, and there is just a stump covered in bandages. As panic sets in, the doctor injects a needle into what’s left of my arm. He tells me that, “I am the only one left as I drift off into a never ending darkness.
