Destruct
Rain drops roll off the end of the sharp, pointed, green leaves and clatter down to the top of my brown stringy haired head, disintegrating once they reach my dry cracked lips, nourishing them with its pure, clean bliss. As my green eyes zoom away from the leaves, I am greeted with an entire forest of beauty. Trees tower above me fifty times my person. The red wood trunks ease my mind into convincing myself I am quite thin. A birds never ending mate call is chirping loudly all around, while my veins tremble and throb as I interpret a lion’s rawr echoing against my tympanic membrane. The trees collect each breath I offer as repay for their exquisite sincerity. Strolling past several enormous trunks I began to notice the absence of branches. My tripping over withered roots unsecured them greatly from beneath the damp disappearing soil. Neon markings seep into the cracks of the trees implying their lives will be ending shortly. Continuing through the tangled amazon, vines that once constricted tightly around strong hulk like branches are now weak and brittle, resembling the arms of an old woman. Petals of an orchid lie ripped apart between my dirty foot and the breakdown of the soil reminding me of a once beautiful area. The mud puddles I walk through squish between my toes, feeling like dilapidated pumpkins the day after Halloween. Eagerly pushing my way through the mud, I am abruptly seized by a slither in my tan, flushed face, coming from a scaly antagonizer in which I face eye to eye. In that instant I am as frozen as a caveman was from 1000 BC, while my mind is a racing 2008 Corvette ZR1. Thoughts of death circulated through my head as my breaths become dyspneic. Moments after, I am able to recollect myself and continue forward, more conscious of what may be ahead. My ovular nostrils are tinged with a sweet indulgence of a perfume being exerted by an astonishing yellow honeysuckle. A rustle in the bushes frightens me as I halt. A furry brown animal no bigger than a mole begins to lead me on a different destructed path past even more rigid trees, they continue to lessen as I proceed. Hours go by as I make my journey through the forest with a mind so determined to find out the beginning of this destruction. I gently lift several branches blocking my way. I am then surrounded by the emptiness of nature at that spot and blinded by the evil of mankind. The disparity of the forest compared to many years before is unbelievable. To choose paper over beauty is a great disappointment, if only everyone could see what is really being destroyed in the process, maybe there would more debate. Darting my way around each decaying stump, I can begin to hear the buzz of the chain and the echo of the destroyers’ voices. A rush of adrenaline overwhelms my body as I dart towards the noise. Tears begin to stream down my blood rushed face joining with my salty sweat that’s already rolling, while thoughts cloud my head with the fact it’s too late, but I keep running. I reach the home of the buzzing noise and lock eyes with the butch man in plaid controlling it, I could tell at that instant he had no care in the world for the beauty he was demolishing, but a selfish care for the paper he is earning himself during the process. Stopping mid-way of cutting down the massive tree, the man sets his metal toothed tool down and stomps through the brush that lies dead on the ground, towards many other men in plaid standing around. He reaches down and picks up a sappy covered, sharp ax and returns to his duty to finish off what he had started. As he begins to chop at the innocent bark, I endure a bite of pain within myself, within my mind. I spring out of where I was watching everything happen and run towards the man controlling the ax. I cannot take this anymore, in that instant I am a cougar chasing its prey, yelling as I reach closer to the man, “Stop!” I am fearless as the ax is being swung about, ripped away from his hands into mine, and then back again as if we are children fighting over a toy. The man in plaid releases a yelp as the other destroyers sprint their way to try and control me. “Look around! Do you not see the peace and radiance of the forest that you are destroying? The lives you are taking away one chop at a time.” As I am protesting my anger, the men eagerly tear me away from the man cutting down the tree. Unable to look any longer I squeeze my fire burning eyes shut in hopes it will be over immediately. As my eyes are still solemnly shut closed, all of a sudden before I could hear anything, I felt the rush of wind smack against my face nearly pushing me over. The gust of wind was news enough for me to know right then the tree was done for. Instantly after the rush of wind, the tree banged upon the soil, claiming its space among the other dead trees. I sit down on the brush layered ground, the back of my thighs scraped by the small broken branches, bringing my face to my soil covered hands.
