Big brother I hate you. I hate you with all my might. I never, ever liked you and I never will. You’re so mean and you never listen to me. You make me so mad. You make me want to pull your hair and bite your arm. Big brother I hate you.

Big brother you’ll be in trouble. You’ll be in so much trouble that you won’t ever be able to leave the house. You won’t be able to see daylight ever again. Mama and Papa won’t let you have breakfast, they won’t ever bake you cookies or help you with homework. Mama and Papa will hate you too. Mama and Papa will hate you if you don’t come home with me. You won’t come home with me and you’ll be in trouble.

Big brother do you feel sorry now? Do you wish you never made me mad? Big brother do you care about me? Do you care about where I am? Do you want to find me? Big brother you won’t come looking, will you? You hate me too. You always hated me. Big brother you wanted me to leave, didn’t you? That’s why you wouldn’t listen. That’s why you never cared. Big brother are you looking for me? Big brother do you miss me?

Big brother I’m scared. I don’t know where I am. The building are so tall and scary. They have so many shiny eyes that never blink. Big brother there are so many people. They keep pushing me. They keep staring down and laughing. The kids are so mean. No one helps me. No one cares. Big brother where are the pretty shops? The pretty shops are all gone. I don’t see them. I see small rooms with people with scribbles on them, with people putting scribbles on other people. I see a room with strange people. They’re all dancing and drinking apple juice I think. That room really smells. It’s scary. Big brother I’m scared. Where am I? Are you looking for me? No one is helping me. I’m raising my hand. Why don’t they help? Big brother I’m scared. Big brother please help me.

Big brother I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I never meant to run away. Were you out of money? Is that why you said no? Were you saving for something else? Is that why you couldn’t get it? Big brother I’m sorry! Please find me! Can you follow my tears and find me? If I sit still will you find me? Big brother I’m sorry but I can’t sit here and wait, the dogs are barking so loud. They’re scaring me. Big brother If I pray will you find me? Should I pray? I’ll pray big brother. Big brother I’m so sorry! Will you find me?

Big brother is that you? Is that you picking me up? Are you hugging me? Why is your face so wet? Did you fall? Was it raining? No. You were crying, weren’t you? Big brother you were crying for me. You were worried. You cared. Hug me tighter big brother. I missed you.

Oh, big brother I love you! You’re so nice. Big brother you bought it for me. Thank you so much. Big brother lollipops are so nice. They taste so sweet. But lollipops won’t last forever, will they? They won’t stay with me forever, will they? That’s okay. Because I have you big brother! Big brother I love you, and I’ll never let you go! You’ll be mine forever!

The author's comments:
I wrote this thinking about how I felt when I was little, and how my emotions and thoughts switch rapidly. I never really had a big brother, since I'm the oldest, but my dad suits the character.

live long and rock on!

I love this! I too am the oldest, and I know what it's like to have a younger sib say " I hate you!" one minute and the next their clinging to your leg because the Boogy man is under the bed. You captured it great! Good job!
