Hard Work
“Come on Leo, block it” “Well with a goal keeper like that you’re not going to block anything” “That’s enough number eleven” shouts one of the refs after they score the fifth goal on Leo. It was FC Dallas vs Dallas Texans. Dallas Texans were always undefeated and they won the championship four times in a row .This was the last game of the season and it wasn’t looking good for Leo and the team’s future. Leo was not the best goalkeeper but he always dreamed of going professional and playing for FC Barcelona . He has just been placed as the starting goalkeeper for FC Dallas and ever since then they have never won a game.
When the season was over Leonardo thought about what that number eleven had said. It motivated him to do better and try harder. Leo started practicing every day with his family. When the new season started Leo was ready than ever before. He went to all the teams’ practices and the coaches saw improvements in his skills.
The first game was here and Leo was mentally and physically ready. “Beeeeep” the refs whistle started the game. Shot after shot Leo was blocking them like a machine. The game ended 5-0 and Leo won the game with a perfect shut out. “Great start for the season guys let’s keep it up” and that’s just what they did. The following games after that were more perfect shut outs by Leo. Leo took his team all the way to the championship game. With a perfect 9-0 season never lost a game. That was the first time in years that FC Dallas went to the final championship game.
“The final game of the season was here two undefeated teams going head to head FC Dallas vs Dallas Texans. Can FC Dallas beat the defending champions or will Dallas Texans keep the title.” “Ok you guys worked this hard now let’s go out there and make ourselves proud” said the coach. Leo was getting ready to go out to the field when he saw number eleven, one of the best forwards and shooters in the league. Had had scored on him multiple times last season. Leo was a little nervous. Kick off time. “Beeeep” the referee had blown his whistle to start the game. Leo’s team took powerful shots at the keeper and all of them saved. Number eleven got the ball and started dribbling toward Leo. Leo was ready, Leo charged at number eleven and number eleven took a shot, Leo dived the right way and saved it. The crowd went crazy for Leos save. Half time 0-0. Start of the second half. Leo’s forward took the ball all the way he took a high shot and froze the keeper and he scored. The fans for FCD went crazy. 1-0. Leo’s team was winning. Number eleven got the ball and took multiple shots at Leo. Shot after shoot block after block Leo was blocking them like a machine. The game was almost over; one minute left and number eleven had the ball dribbling towards the goal. On his way to the goal he got fouled in the box. “No that’s not a foul ref” shouts the coach. This could change the game one minute left to play and it was a one on one penalty vs number eleven and Leo if Leo blocks this then he wins the game for his team if he doesn’t they go into overtime. Number eleven backed up and run up to the ball to take his shot. Leo was nervous but ready. Leo dived and saved the goal! The crowd went crazy! “Beeeep” the ref had ended the game. Leo had done it he had blocked the goal and won the game. “Come on Andy!” shouted the coach. “Well with a forward like that you’re not going to score a thing.” Leo said happily.
Leo felt proud walking into the teams huddle. “You did guys you beat the Dallas Texans. FC Dallas on three one, two, three. FC Dallas!” When Leo walked to his parents he saw a man standing next to them talking to his parents. “Hello” said the man. “I saw you play and I have to say you are one heck of a keeper. Thanks. So how would you like to play for FC Barcelona?” Leo looked at his parents with a smile and they smiled back.
