A mother. A father. The ones that loves and cares. The ones that teach good to the children. Having parents and a whole family is very lucky, because not every kid in the world has parents to love and care for them…but Marilyn has a whole feeling about her “parents”.

“Do you know how rich this guy is?” Marilyn’s mother asked. “Mom! You are making me get married not to give me I life that I deserve but to get his money!” Marilyn shouts. “Shhh! How dare you think that of your father and me? You will get married to him! Got it?” her mother shouted back at her. Marilyn was going to open her mouth to protest but she knew she had no value in this family. All she did was stand in her dress with a tear running down her face. Then she went downstairs to see the man that would soon destroy her life.
Marilyn is doctor, one of the richest and smartest in the country, but she didn’t like all the wealth she got. She would go to work every day looking at the people without homes and feeling guilty. She is kind, helpful, and giving but her family despises her for all her actions. She knew they just didn’t want to give money to the poor. They thought they are filthy people who just make the city garbage. Marilyn thought they were people just like any other person just with a little fortune.
Marilyn loved everyone and everything about her life except her family and the man she would soon get married to. She was afraid of them. She just wanted to run away so she didn’t have to marry the man but she knew that if she did she would go through the same fate of her much-loved-sister. She had to do everything they say. She tried to “love” him the best way she can but it never came to her. She believed that love was something you need to find, not being forced to. Then the day she dreaded...engagement day.
As she got dressed for the engagement, she cried. After she got dressed she went and looked at the picture of her sister. She cried at remember how she found her sister gone from her life forever. Marilyn wished she was with her. “What in the name of God is taking you forever? Come on Marilyn! And stop crying like a baby! You are 25 years already! I promise you if you cry during the engagement…” then her father looked at the picture of her sister. Marilyn’s heart was beating. She just wanted to go to a corner and cry her life out. Then she wiped her tears and put a smile on her face and went downstairs.
When she went down stairs her smile slightly faded as she saw her “man”, Zachery. She continued down the stairs and Zachery took her forcefully by her hand and brought her in front of his friends, “Everyone this is my fiancée, Marilyn.” Zachery said as he looked down at her to signal her to smile. Marilyn smiled. Then everyone was called as the engagement was to happen. She looked at the ring that will easily wash away all the money she worked so hard to get. After the party she became really sad. She just wanted to cry. Zachery saw her looking all down and went and quickly grabbed her hand and went into a room and through on to a chair. “Are you kidding me Marilyn? I seriously don’t want to be embarrassed by you for crying! If you cry out there I will...you know what I don’t want to talk about this anymore! You are making me sick!” Marilyn cried. He walked out of the room and shut the door super hard. He lied to everyone that she is going to bed because she has a big headache. Marilyn cried all night. She dint get any sleep that night.
Later that day, she went to work, the only place she enjoys. As she was working she met one her youngest patient, Abby. Abby was a 10-year-old girl who is on a wheelchair for the last couple of years due to a car accident she was involved in. Marilyn liked her. She enjoyed every bit of Abby’s company. The way she laughed and kept her spirits high about her legs, which might never walk again. Marilyn laughed along with Abby as she said her jokes. She met Abby twice a week. Marilyn always looked forward to those days. Sometimes she doesn’t sleep the night before thinking about all the fun she will have with Abby. As they became very close, Marilyn decided to ask her a question she should have asked at their first visit. “Where are your parents?” Abby bursted into tears. Marilyn never saw her cry, she always laughed. “Abby, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry!” Marilyn said sadly. “It’s ok...I…just don’t like talking about my parents.” Abby replied with tears.
“What happened?”
“In the car accident I lost my legs and…my parents.”
“I never knew that…I am so sorry to make you feel like that.”
“It’s ok.”
“Do you have anyone? Siblings, uncle, aunts?”
“I have a older brother. His name is Alex. He always cares for me. I love him a lot! I am pretty sure no one has a brother like him. I always felt like I was the luckiest sister on the planet!”
“You really love him, right?”
“Yes!”
Marilyn wanted to see this “loving” brother. She felt a slight feel of jealousy of Abby for at least having a loving brother, Marilyn has no one.
The next day Marilyn saw Alex for the first time. When she saw him she felt her heart beat stopping for a split second. Marilyn never saw a man like him. That’s when she remembered her nightmare, Zachery. She knew she had to keep her marriage promise. “Alex! Come here! I want you to meet someone!” Abby shouted from the end of the hall. Alex came over and froze for a second. He looked at Marilyn. He never saw a woman so beautiful like her. He felt like everything was going in slow motion. He saw her long wavy hair and her beautiful blue eyes. The way she smiled made him speechless. They way she handled her sister. Then he suddenly snapped out of it and went over to his sister with butterflies in his stomach. “Alex this is Dr. Marilyn Jackson and Doc this is my awesome brother Alex.” Abby said to the both of them. “Hi.” Alex said nervously.
“Hi.” Marilyn said nervously. Weeks passed and they became really good friends. Both of them would look forward for the two days they got to see each other. Every time they meet they talk nonstop sometimes loosing the track of time. One day Alex had the strenghth to ask Marilyn on a “friend” date. During the “friend” date Alex learned her story of how she got forced to get married to Zachery. During the evening, Marilyn decided to get some fresh air. When she walked out promising Alex she will be back, she saw Zachery with another woman, which she doesn’t recognize, holding hands. Marilyn lost it. She could have left the man before they even got engaged but she didn’t because she was afraid to die from her own family. He was the one that was strict and forced her to get married to him is cheating on her. She ran across the street, not aware of the cars that could have possibly killed her, and went to him and patted on his back. “What do you think you are doing my dear fiancé?” she shouted. “What are you doing here Marilyn? Get lost!” he shouted back. The woman was so confused. “What is going on?”
“I will tell you what is going on! This man here is the man I am going to get married to in less than a week!” Marilyn shouted. Not even asking another question the woman ran away in tears. Marilyn was about to cry because she couldn’t take this man in front of her. She was screaming so loud that Alex heard her voice from inside the restaurant. He walked out after paying the bill and walked towards her. “What’s going on Marilyn? Why are you crying?” Alex asked Marilyn while looking at Zachery, who he didn’t know. Marilyn ran to Alex and cried on his shoulders, making it all wet. Marilyn told Alex what just happened. “You are a disgusting man Mr. Zachery.” Alex said in disgust. “Who are you? Why are you with her?” Zachery shot back. Marilyn who couldn’t take this anymore and shouted, “This is my friend! I don’t need to cheat anyone! I could have left you before I even got engaged to you!” Alex didn’t want this to be such a big problem so he took Marilyn in his arm, “Come on Marilyn; let’s go. I will drop you home.” With so much disgust and anger Marilyn took the ring off and threw it at Zachery. Marilyn cried all the way to her home. Alex dropped her off not knowing what was yet to come.
Alex was happy and kind of sad at what happened. He knew Marilyn was sad but Alex liked her. He wondered why she was so sad even though she hated Zachery. With that in his mind he fell asleep.
Marilyn didn’t like Zachery. She was sad because she wasted all her time to “love” him. She still felt cheated on because she was going to marry this man. She fell asleep thinking that her parents won’t allow her to get married to Zachery because of what just occurred…but she was wrong.
The next morning Alex woke up by a phone call. He looked at the caller id and saw Marilyn. He quickly got up and answered the phone hearing Marilyn crying over the phone.
“Hello? Marilyn?”
“Alex! Please help me! My parents locked me up in my room! They won’t let me out until the wedding!” Marilyn cried.
“What? I thought they wouldn’t force you anymore!”
“No! I don’t know what to do! Please help me Alex!”
“Don’t worry! I will get you out before the wedding!”
“They will hurt you! Zachery told them about you!”
Without being able to say anything Alex heard her screaming and another voice which he didn’t recognize, “You won’t need a phone either! Give that to me…” then silence. He called back several times, but no answer. Marilyn was in trouble.
Alex didn’t know what to do. For days he didn’t know what to do. He was confused and scared. Then he realized that there was only one day left till the wedding. He had to save her tonight.
The next morning, Marilyn’s mom went to her room so she can get ready for the wedding. When she opened the door she didn’t see her. She screamed. “She is gone! She is gone! We lost the money! Oh dear!” Then her husband came to see what was happening. “Why are you screaming? Did you tell her to get ready?”
“She is gone! No where to look! Our money is gone!”
They entered her room to find a note placed on her bed which said:
Dear mom and dad,
I know that you are freaking out about me not being there, but it is ok because I was taken away to somewhere peaceful. I told you several times that if you keep forcing me to get married to this man just for the money you will one day loose it all. Even after what occurred less than a week ago with Zachery, you still forced me to get married to him. Well…that won’t work for me. Please don’t come after me. I just want to live the rest of my life peacefully with someone that actually cares for me. And you are probably thinking Alex and yes it is Alex. Please leave me alone.
Love,
Marilyn
They put down the paper down in shock and saw a word written on the back of the paper: stolen.
