The Hostage
Sabrina cannot wait to get home to see her family and is warned by her mother about a storm approaching. She continues to leave because she cannot wait any longer. As she pulls out of the parking lot, she notices a bright, glowing light behind her but doesn't worry about it until she sees the light twice more. Will Sabrina pull over to see what it is? What will happen if she doesn't pull over or what will happen if she does pull over?
Chapter 1: The Beginning The Hostage
It was on a dreary day in December, Sabrina was impatiently waiting to go home from Quinnipiac.
Sabrina was a twenty-two year old senior just waiting to receive her degree in Accounting. She was a lively student who always procrastinated and attended parties on the weekends and never got much sleep. School was tough but she was pushing through the last few months. As she was sitting in class, she was daydreaming about spending the holidays with her family. Her family was very festive during the holidays. Christmas was this Saturday and she could not wait to get home to her family. Her mother warned her about a storm approaching later on that evening and offered to pick her up in the morning but she could not wait any longer and decided to leave campus as soon as class ended. Sabrina packed up her clothes along with her Christmas presents and headed out the door.
The roads were slippery and the snow was just beginning to fall. There was not a star in the sky. Her mother’s voice kept replaying in her head, “I will pick you up tomorrow, Sabrina.” As she walked to her car she reconsidered her choice of going home that night but opened the car door and sat down in the driver’s seat. As she pulled out of the parking lot, she saw a bright, glowing light in the side mirror. Sabrina did not think anything of the light and continued to the road.
Sabrina was very close to her family and she could not wait to see them. There was not a car on the road and so she decided to go 80 miles per hour when the speed limit was 55 miles per hour. No lights shone
down on the pavement but the dark did not frighten Sabrina. She continued to speed up to beat the storm because she did not want her mother to know that she was right.
Sabrina always had the radio on station 103.3 since it played Christmas songs one after another during the month of September. The music was roaring but did not distract her from making it home in time. Sabrina then saw the bright, glowing light once again. She continued to drive and didn’t bother to slow down to look. As she was driving, she was trying to guess what her family may have gotten her for Christmas and she hoped her family would like their presents too.
Once again there was a bright, glowing light flashing on Sabrina’s car. Now, she decided to slow down and take a look. She saw an SUV tailgating her car. As soon as she saw this, she floored the gas. The anonymous car caught up to Sabrina and rolled down the windows. “PULL OVER! PULL OVER!” Sabrina was frightened and decided to speed up. Again, the driver exclaimed, “PULL OVER! NOW!” Sabrina floored the gas one more time. The car caught up to her again and the driver yelled something but Sabrina could not make out what he said so she continued to drive faster. “If you don’t pull over there will be consequences to face!” yelled the men in the car. She pulled over to the side of the road under the impression a police officer was stopping her. When the driver of the car had approached her, he was wearing a tight black shirt with a badge. It was so dark that she could not make out what the badge read. Sabrina rolled down her window and turned off the radio.
“What can I do for you?” asked Sabrina.
“Miss, you were speeding and would not pull over. Can you step out of the vehicle?” replied the man. It took her a minute to unbuckle her seatbelt and turn the key to shut her car off. She finally opened the car door and three more men surrounded her. “Um, what is going on?” Sabrina was concerned and extremely curious as to why more men had appeared.
“Please follow us.” replied the first man that approached her. Sabrina was not aware of where she was but followed the men anyways. She thought if she listened to them, they would not harm her and they would let her go.
“Where are we going?” asked Sabrina. There was no answer. “Excuse me. Where are we going?” she replied in a stern voice.
“QUIET!” yelled the men. She was now anxious and had an uneasy feeling. Sabrina wanted to call her family to let them know what was going on. She reached into her pocket to find that she left her phone in the car. She turned around to see if her car was near, but could not make out the area. She did not say a word but continued to follow the men. “Now, stay here. Do not move. We will be back.” Sabrina’s eyes wandered around the woods curiously. She looked up and a snowflake fell into her eye. The storm had begun.
Meanwhile, in Sabrina’s car her phone had been ringing. There were six missed calls; three from her mother, two from her sisters, and one from her father. Her family had been worried because she had not answered any of their phone calls and because of the storm.
The men had finally returned to Sabrina and immediately put a blindfold on her. “What’s going on! LET GO OF ME! Get this off of me!” screamed Sabrina.
“I said QUIET!” the men replied back. “Follow me and do not say a word.” said one of the men. Sabrina held on to one of the men’s arms to keep her balance. They walked to the cars and all squeezed into the strange man’s car. They covered her in a blanket and blocked her ears so she could not see or hear anything. Sabrina tried to uncover herself but soon realized her hands were tied together behind her back. She was only able to speak. “Can someone please tell me what is going on?!” All of a sudden the car came to an immediate stop.
“If you don’t keep your mouth shut, you and your family will be killed.” said one of the men in a serious voice. The driver continued to drive. The car began to swerve back and forth around the road, Sabrina still unaware of where she was. The car came to a halting stop. One man took off Sabrina’s blindfold while the others rushed out of the car to from a circle.
“Stay quiet.” replied the man that took off her blindfold. He then joined them in their circle as Sabrina watched from the window of the backseat. She was wondering what her family was doing and tears of remorse fell from her eyes. She wished she had waited for her mother to pick her up the next morning. She could see one of the men walking back to the car so she quickly wiped away her tears. One of the men came back and opened her door.
“Were you crying? Get out of the car.” He yanked her out of the car and she knew exactly where she was. The men had taken Sabrina to her parent’s house.
“Go ring the doorbell and tell your family to come outside.” said the scariest man out of the four.
“No.” replied Sabrina. The men took Sabrina by her arm and dragged her to the front door of the house.
When they reached the front door, the men whispered, “Now, ring the doorbell.”
“No.” insisted Sabrina.
“If you do not ring that bell, I will stab you right here on your parent’s front steps.” replied the
scariest man in a very demanding tone. Sabrina knew she had to ring the bell now because she did not want herself or her family to be in danger.
As soon as Sabrina was reaching for the bell, one of the men whispered, “Ring it now, come on.” Sabrina rang the doorbell and she could hear it from the inside. She was frightened just thinking about how her parents would react to seeing her with four older men.
“Ring! Ring! Ring!” sounded the bell last period. Sabrina had fallen asleep in class and had a horrible nightmare. She rushed out of class horrified and reached for her phone to call her sisters to tell them what just happened to her. When she turned on her phone she had six missed calls; three from her mother, two from her sisters, and one from her father...
