Moving
One day, during Christmas break in seventh grade, my dad decided we’re going to move to Texas. Me, my mom, and my little sister, Kaylee, were excited to move, except for the fact that we would be leaving all our friends and family. About a week or two later we were on our way to Northern Texas. Traveling there took about one and a half days because we stopped every two hours or so for fuel and snacks and we stayed in a hotel overnight. It was a long ride but, we got to see a lot of cool stuff like when we were going through Arizona, we saw a lot of cacti and oddly shaped mountains.
Kaylee and I started school right away. Kaylee really liked her new school, she made some good friends and had a lot of fun, but for me, not so much. The school was very long, it started at eight twenty and ended at four o’clock with eight periods instead of six. I think the school was a little behind because I had already learned all of the things they were teaching me so I was always really bored. The kids there weren’t very interesting either, they always laughed at really weird things that aren’t funny at all.
On top of that, my allergies started acting up. For some reason when you have allergies and you live in the Dallas area, they are much worse than they are anywhere else. Kaylee even started to have problems with allergies and she usually doesn’t. My whole family started having allergies, except for my dad. We were all constantly sneezing. It was horrible.
Soon my dad decided it was time to move back to California because we missed our friends and family and also we wanted to get away from all the allergy problems. He wanted to surprise us so he told us to pack up some stuff because we are going on a road trip but, that was all he told us. He didn’t even tell us where we were going until we had already driven away. I was shocked and, at the same time, overjoyed. I wanted to call my friends and tell them I was on my way but, we forgot our phones and we were already too far away to turn around to get them. When we left we were only supposed to come to visit for a week or two but, we thought about it and decided to stay because all our family is here in California.
Living in Texas wasn’t all bad though. It was clean and beautiful. The streets had little to no trash. When you stopped at a stoplight or a stop sign on the corner of a street there was no one there begging for money or food. The houses were all huge and most of them were two story. There was a long beautiful river running through the town with big green trees surrounding it. Trees were everywhere you looked and there was a gigantic field a bright purple flowers.
Once we got back to California we had our things shipped to us. I’m glad that I got to experience what it’s like to live in Texas. Even though it wasn’t the best thing, at least, I got to go on two road trips through California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. I would only recommend moving to Texas if you're a young child or an adult because those are the most normal groups, the teens are just weird. Or maybe is was just that I’m too used to California.
