Abbott's Day Alone
“Do I have to stay home alone?” whined Abbott as his mom left for work. “Can I come to your office?” Whenever Abbot stayed home alone, he got very bored, and he would rather help his mom at her office. She was a dentist, and he could help put toothbrushes in bags with other dental supplies.
“I’m sorry, Abbott. I wish you could, but you have to stay home with Leo. I need you to take care of him,” his mom uttered sympathetically.
“But mom, you know how bored I get when there is nobody around to communicate with,” Abbott wailed. His dad and brother had left an hour or so ago, so he had nobody to support his argument.
“I’ll bring some krispy kreme doughnuts after I finish my shift.” she said.
“Fine, I’ll stay alone.” he said as he sadly gave up.
Though he was staying with his dog, he wasn’t familiar with how to take care of him without help. His brother had school for three of the nine days of break, so he had to stay alone for three days of the week. His dog wasn’t old enough or mature enough to know not to chew on wires that were plugged in, so he had various safety concerns. He was sure that he was brave enough to stay without his brother or parents. As his mom left the house, he suddenly felt scared. He was watching TV, and he heard a thump as loud as a dinosaur. Abbot was startled. He had not been home alone too much, so this was quite terrifying. He didn’t know what was making the noise, so he slowly walked towards the sound with a baseball bat, ready to attack when needed. In his room, his football MVP trophy was on the floor, and Leo was on his bed. He had knocked his blankets over the bed, and ripped a small hole in his pillow cover. It was hard to be mad at him because of the look on his face, but Abbott still scolded him, and shut his room door after forcing his dog out.
About 25 minutes later, he heard another thump. This time, Abbott was almost positive that it wasn’t anything in his room. He took the bat again and went to check if anything bad had happened, and realized Leo had just knocked over his brother’s soccer trophy. He was more relaxed after checking, because he assumed that any noise would be his dog. He heard two more loud thumps, and he closed the doors of the rooms that Leo was in. There wouldn’t be any more sounds from Leo, so any sounds from now on would probably be someone trying to break in. Even though this was highly unlikely, he kept his baseball bat with him. If he heard anything, as terrified as he would be, he would charge to the noise and swing with his baseball bat. He watched a Modern Family marathon for 4 hours. Nothing had happened, so he decided that maybe he could sleep without being bothered. He plopped on the couch and pulled his blanket over him. He had brought his pillow, which he had shifted to a position that was comfortable.
He slept for an hour, but was woken up by Leo licking his face. It was time to feed him. Abbott took Leo’s food and put it in a bowl, and put the bowl near Leo. After a minute, it was gone. He wiped Leo’s face, the bowl, and put the bowl back in the garage. He had slept for long enough, and continued the Modern Family marathon.
“This is the best show ever!” Abbott exclaimed.
Modern Family was his favorite show, and during the marathon, he saw how much the characters in the show had grown over the seasons. He was enjoying himself, and decided that he should play with Leo. He disarmed the house, went outside, and he played fetch. Leo wouldn’t bring the ball back without a treat. After 30 minutes, Abbott went inside. He armed the house, and by now, it was 2:00 p.m. His mom would finish her shift at 3:30, so he would get doughnuts then. After finishing another episode of tv, he decided to get some chips from the kitchen.
He walked into the kitchen. Suddenly, he heard a loud crash, the alarm went off. Someone was robbing them!!! He quickly ran to a closet and hid, but first brought a treat to get Leo to follow him.. He knew that the police would come in a couple of minutes, so hopefully the robber wouldn’t find him. He hid under a pile of clothes, and waited. After what felt like an hour, the police came. They checked all the rooms, and finally found me. They told me how the robber had taken some jewelry, but before he could get away, they arrested him.
“Good job hiding in the closet,” Deputy Officer Regan said.
My mom had gotten home at this point, and she had been hugging me. She had brought doughnuts!!! I was still shaken up, to think that I had hid in a closet that a robber walked by! My brother had come home from his school day. My dog was safe, as he was quiet when we were in the closet. I enjoyed two doughnuts, as did my brother. I was not going to stay alone for a while after that terrifying experience. Thankfully, nothing had been stolen because the cops had arrived in time to stop the thief from running away. I had been through terrifying experiences before, such as climbing the Huayna Picchu in Peru, but this definitely made my top 3. After all the commotion was over, the police left and we all sat down and watched tv. My dad came home, and he asked me some questions. He made dinner, and after dinner, I went to bed.
