CRYSTAL
Hazel wakes up to the bright morning sun each day to take her sister Alex to school.
Hazel loves nature, she loves it so much she refuses to ride in a car.
“Alex are you ready!?” Hazel yelled.
“No not quite; I’ll be there in a little bit,” Alex replied.
“Bye Alex, see you later.”
After Hazel drops off Alex, she meets up with Aiden, who is her best friend since they were in high school.
“Hey,”Aiden said.
“Hey, let’s go.”
“Wait, it’s a little cold outside; let’s just go in my car? yeah?”
“No, it’s okay; I’ll just go on my bike.”
“Okay, but give me a minute,” He said as he walked towards his garage.
“Okay, let’s go.”
Aiden had brought his bike with him.
Everyday after school they come straight home because they know that if they go and talk they will get distracted with school work.
“I’ll see you later Haze.”
“Okay, see you later.”
As always Hazel goes to Aidens house after; Her mom called her that day and said she needed to go on a trip to see someone really important.
“Haze, she didn’t tell you where she was headed or who she was gonna see?”
“She didn’t say who but she said something about Jacksonville,” said Hazel. “She had to tell someone though.”
“Do you want to go to your uncle’s house and ask?”
“Yeah, let’s go.”
They began walking to her uncle George’s house.
“Who would my mom want to go see? I don’t even think we have family over there.”
They finally arrived to her uncle’s house. He lived pretty far from Aidens house.
“Hey George, a couple hours ago mom called. She said she was headed to Jacksonville, Florida to see someone important.”
“What I don’t understand is why, we don’t even have family there. Right?”
“No, you don’t; I don’t understand either.”
George had paused for a while thinking what he should tell her. He needed time to explain the truth.
The next morning Hazel went to school just like any day of the week. As the students were doing their test the announcements interrupted them.
“Good afternoon...students I have some bad news,”The principle explained “This morning a plane crashed from here, headed to Jacksonville Florida… the news will announce more information later but I thought I would let you guys know,”
Hazel looked out of it after she heard the announcement.
“Mrs. Martin, may I be excused?” Hazel said as she almost fell.
Aiden immediately got up out of his seat, quick enough he actually caught Hazel.
“Hazel, Hazel,” he said repeatedly “Can you hear me?”
“Give her some space!” Aiden didn’t know what to do.
She finally reacted and didn’t know what was going on around her. The news hadn’t came until later that night, Aiden was really worried.
“I have to tell Hazel what her mom told me,” George told himself as he was pacing back and forth in his bedroom. “Nevermind I have to find something else to make up so she won’t get mad at me” He continually spoke to himself about what to tell Hazel.
Weeks had gone by and they still didn’t have much information about Hazel’s mom, Judith.
Hazel couldn’t go to school she was to stressed; not knowing anything about her mom. Aiden and her were really close, so he decided to stay with her for a couple of days.
“Aiden,” said Hazel “What if she’s dead?” She started to tear up.
He replied calmly but scared “Well, you know anything could’ve happened we will never know the exact truth, but eventually someone has to know something.” Aiden came into deep thought; asked himself, what if there's more to this?
Hazel’s dad was still not home so Aiden and Hazel were in charge of Alex. Since Aiden was going to stay he had to get his clothes from his house, so he did. When Aiden was walking back to her house he saw Jacob, Alex’s father.
“Hey, Mr. Forester I wanted to ask if could stay at your house for a while, just until Hazel gets better?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong with Hazel,” Jacob answered with a worried voice.
“You didn’t hear what happened this morning?”
“No,” He said “Let’s go to my house and tell me there.”
After Aiden told him everything Jacob was upset because Judith didn’t tell him anything.
“When are you going back to school?”
“Until I know something about mom.” Hazel replied.
The next morning Hazel was passed out asleep so Aiden offered to take Alex to school.
“Alex come on you have to go to school today, you have a test to take.”
“Okay, let me get ready.”
“I’ll be waiting for you in the car.”
As Aiden walked to his car he stepped on something, he didn’t know what it was though.
“Ow!” Aiden suddenly yelled “What the heck is this” He said as he picked up a Crystal necklace. It looked like it had already been used by someone.
“Alex what time do you get out?”
“At 3:00, can you pick me up earlier though?”Alex asked as she walked towards the door.
“Um, I’ll see if I can make it, okay?” Aiden said while he was staring at the necklace
“Okay bye.”
After Aiden dropped Alex off he went back to Hazel’s house.
“Where did you go?” Hazel said as she stared at the necklace.
“I took your sister to school and I found this, do you know who’s this is?”
“No but it looks familiar.”
Aiden cleaned it and put it on her.
“Want to go somewhere, anywhere?”
“No, don’t feel like it” She replied giggling.
“Well I don’t care if you don’t c’mon, go get ready.” He told her, “By the way we’re going in my car”
“Ugh, Okay fine but just for this time.”
Aiden and Hazel got in the car and drove off.
“We’re going to stop at your uncle’s to get my sweater okay.”
When they got there they both got off to say hi and to get what they had left.
“Where did you get that necklace?” George asked.
“Oh this, Aiden found it,” She replied, “Why does it belong to someone?”
George couldn’t reply, and soon he had a flashback, when Scott gave that crystal necklace to Judith.
It was that day, that last day Judith would have been able to see Scott before he had left to the military. Judith was really sad knowing that Scott had to leave for a long time. So she spent her day at home waiting for Scott to come back from his last day at his old job. When Scott got home he brought that crystal necklace.
Then said, “Don’t forget me, every time you look at this think of me, all the times that we spent together, our first date, you’ll always be on my mind.” After Scott walked out, Judith never saw him again.
He finally snapped out of it and thought to himself, there’s no way I can tell Hazel about her real father, I can’t tell her anything, I just can’t.
