Senior Prom
Chase’s Point of View
The teacher lectured on in the background, but all I could think about was her. She had the most stunning green eyes, and the most beautiful waist-long amber tresses. The night of senior prom was getting close, and I couldn’t find the courage to ask her to go with me. I sat in a daydream before the bell rang jerking me out of my daze, I quickly grabbed my books and headed to my locker. Throughout the day I could not get her out of my mind, I needed to ask her. Right when I walked through the door after school my mom knew something was up,
“What’s gotten into you? I have never seen you look this happy after school.” I smiled,
“Mom, I’m going to ask Rachel to senior prom.” She comes over and hugs me,
“Oh, that’s wonderful Chase!”
She hugs me once more before telling me to go get washed up for dinner. I came downstairs to find my dad and brother talking, and my sister sitting with my mom. I walk down, grab my plate, and sit down at the table next to my sister. My mom looks over at me and smiles,
“Hey guys, I want to tell you something.” They all look up from what they were doing and give me their full attention.
“Tomorrow I’m going to ask Rachel to senior prom,” My dad gets up and gives me a hug,
“That's great son, I’m proud of you.” I smile,
“Thanks dad.”
After dinner I went up to my room and laid on my bed. I lay staring at the ceiling, I couldn’t sleep, I was both excited and nervous. After awhile I started drifting off and eventually fell asleep.
The next morning I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock, I sat up and rubbed my eyes before getting out of bed. As I walked over to my closet I suddenly remembered what I was going to do that day, my stomach suddenly tied in knots. I quickly got dressed, combed my hair, and rushed downstairs. My mom was in the kitchen making breakfast, she looked up and smiled as I came down, then she gave me a plate and told me to sit down. I looked down at my plate and took a few bites, but I could not eat anymore, and I picked up my plate and took it to the sink. My mom looked over at me with a worried expression on her face,
“Are you not feeling well?” She walked over to feel my forehead for a fever.
“No mom I’m fine, I’m just a little nervous that's all.”
She looked me in the eyes and asked, “Why are you nervous?”
I looked down at my feet not knowing what to say, “I just don’t know if she will say yes, and I don’t know how to ask her.”
She gave me an encouraging smile and said, “If she says no that’s not your fault, it will be her choice. And Chase, don’t worry about how to ask her, just be yourself.”
I gave her a shy smile, “Thanks mom.”
I walked into the school with butterflies in my stomach, my palms were sweating and I felt like I couldn’t breath. I saw her standing by her locker, and began walking over to her. She looked up as I walked over and smiled,
“Hi Chase,”
I smiled and tried to talk but my mouth felt dry and the words just wouldn’t come out. She stared at me with a confused look on her face,
“Is there something you wanted to talk to me about?”
I swallowed and took a deep breath,
“Rachel, will you go to senior prom with me?”
Her surprised look was followed by an excited answer,
“Yes of course I will!”
And to my surprise, she came up and hugged me,
“Thanks Chase, I can’t wait.”
About a week later I was standing outside Rachel’s door, I straightened my tie, took a deep breath and rang the doorbell. I could hear someone shuffling inside before a woman opened the door, she had long amber hair just like Rachel, and had a big smile that spread almost across her face.
“Oh you must be Chase, Rachel has told me all about you. Here come inside.”
I stepped inside and she shut the door behind me,
“Rachel is just upstairs. Let me go get her.”
I waited anxiously by the door before hearing someone at the top of the stairs, I look up and saw Rachel standing in the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. It was a beautiful blue dress that flowed behind her as she walked. I stood there stunned,
“Rachel, you look beautiful,”
She blushed, “Thank you Chase, you look very handsome.”
I took out her corsage and slipped it onto her wrist, then she carefully pinned on my boutonniere. Her mom came downstairs and smiled,
“Oh my goodness, you both look great, let me get the camera.”
She rushed off and came back holding her camera,
“Ok, get together and smile.”
We got together and put our arms around eachother, her mom quickly took a few pictures before rushing us out the door and telling us to hurry so we wouldn't be late. We arrived at the dance a couple of minutes later, and headed inside. I opened the door and offered her my arm, she slipped hers into mine and we went to join everyone else. When we got inside there was already lots of people there with their dates, we walked in as a slow song began to play,
“Rachel, would you like to dance?”
Without any hesitation she said,
“Of course.”
We walked out to join everyone else, I turned to her and offered my hand. She timidly put her’s into mine and we began to dance.
Rachel’s Point of View
It’s the week before prom, but no one had asked me yet, I was hoping that Chase would. I couldn’t help but cast a glance every once in awhile in his direction. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and an amazing smile. Once when I looked he was too, he was looking at me! I looked down at my work trying to concentrate on what the teacher was saying, I tried to listen to the assignment, but I just could not think. The school bell rang, I jumped out of my seat, grabbed my things, and rushed out the door.
When I got home from school my mom was helping my younger sister with her homework,
“Hi mom, hi Kess,”
I said as I walked into the living room,
my mom smiled, “Hi Rachel, how was school?”
I walk over and sat next to them on the couch,
“It was good, same as usual.”
She turned back to helping my sister, and I headed to my room wanting to finish my homework. When I came out later that night my dad was home talking to my mom, and Kess was over reading one of her books. I went and sat down next to her and we talked until my mom called us to come eat dinner. Later that night I sat on my bed reading, but I couldn’t concentrate on the words, I wanted to know why he was looking at me earlier that day. I set my book down and laid in bed, thinking it over before I eventually fell asleep.
The next morning I woke up and rubbed my eyes, I sat up before getting out of bed and getting ready for school. I went into the bathroom and carefully did my make-up, I was finishing up with my mascara when my mom called me downstairs, telling me that breakfast was ready. I hurried to the kitchen to find my mom talking to an overly excited Kess, she was blabbing on about the party her class was going to have that day. My mom looked up and smiled,
“Hi Rachel, go ahead and sit down.”
I walked over to the table and took a seat, Kess came and sat next to me while our mom brought us a plate. We ate quickly and then took our plates to the sink, then we gathered up our school books and went to the car.
I got out of the car and walked into the school, I walked up to my locker and began to twist the combo when suddenly Chase walked up and stood next to me.
“Hi Chase,”
He smiled, but didn’t say anything. Confused I asked,
“Is there something you wanted to talk to me about?”
He took a deep breath and asked,
“Rachel, will you go to senior prom with me?”
I was surprised, but this was followed by excitement,
“Yes of course I will!”
I walked up and hugged him, he tensed, obviously surprised at my action,
“Thanks Chase, I can’t wait.”
That day after school I was buzzing with excitement, my mom and dad were already home when I walked inside, I was practically jumping up and down. My mom gave me a funny look,
“What has gotten into you? I haven’t seen you this happy in a while.”
I smiled, “Chase asked me to prom!”
My mom came and hugged me, “That’s great Rachel,”
My dad smiled before coming and hugging me as well, Kess came into the living room to see what all the excitement was about. We told her and she became almost as excited as I was,
“Can I help you pick out a dress, and help you get ready?”
“Sure Kess,”
She smiled really big before running out of the room, talking to herself about how she was going to do my hair and such. I laughed, and so did my parents.
About a week later I stood in front of my mirror wearing a beautiful blue dress that made me feel like a princess. I was finishing with my make-up while my mom finished curling my hair, Kess stood behind us commenting on how pretty I looked, and giggling when she mentioned my “boyfriend,” until she eventually went to talk to my dad. My mom left a few minutes later while I stood in front of the mirror admiring the way the dress flowed behind me, and how beautiful it made me feel. My mom came back into my room and told me that Chase was downstairs, my stomach tied into knots, as she led me to the stairs. I looked down as he looked up at me, I began walking down the stairs, feeling my dress flow around my ankles.
“Rachel, you look beautiful,”
I blushed, feeling my cheeks turn red, “Thank you Chase, you look very handsome.”
He gently took my wrist and slipped on my corsage, then I carefully pinned on his boutineer.
My mom came down the stairs, “Oh my goodness, you both look great, let me get the camera.”
I blushed again, of course she wanted pictures, she rushed off and came back holding her camera,
“Ok, get together and smile.”
We got closer and Chase put his arm around my waist. We took a few pictures before my mom rushed us out the door telling us to hurry so we wouldn’t be late. We got into the car and arrived at the dance a few minutes later. We walked up to the door and Chase opened it for me before offering his arm, I slipped mine into his and we walked inside. There was already lots of people there with their dates dancing, a slow song began to play as we walked in. Chase turned to me and said,
“Rachel, would you like to dance?”
“Of course.”
We walked out to dance and he offered me his hand, I hesitated before putting mine gently into his. He put his hand on my back and we began to dance.
