Florida Gone Wrong
Amanda and her family finally arrived at the hotel. She had been waiting to be in Florida ever since elementary school when her best friend went. Amanda was eighteen. It was spring break meaning senior year was almost coming to an end. Amanda wanted to take a break from senior year and being in Florida was the perfect way. It was an awesome getaway from “where are you going to college?” questions and all the annoying people back in South Dakota where she lived. The hotel was very nice, it had two king sized beds, one for her parents and the other for Amanda and her thirteen year old sister, Jill. The bathroom had a walk in shower, which looked heavenly. Going to Florida with her parents and sister wasn’t her ideal vacation. Amanda would rather go with her friends or her boyfriend Andrew back at home. She was thankful that she was in Florida, and that’s all that mattered.
After settling in the hotel, Amanda’s parents suggested she and Jill go to the beach. This meaning her parents probably wanted some alone time. Scary. Her parents had been married ever since Amanda was two years old. Throughout her life, Amanda always saw her parents as a happy marriage, which in fact was true. They rarely ever fought and when they did it would be about stupid little things, like turning the volume on the television down.
“Mom come with us! I have no clue where we are even going.” Jill begged.
“No, no I’m going to stay behind and finish unpacking with your father.”
“Mom no, you’re going to the beach with us, leave dad to do the unpacking.”
“Girls day out!” Jill added in.
“Okay, fine. But only for a few hours.”
Amanda wiggled her toes in the hot sand as it oozed in between her toes. This was the life. The blazing sun shined on her skin and the air tasted salty. The humidity was so strong she could already feel her long straightened blonde hair curling. She thought back to what her friends back at home were doing. South Dakota didn’t have much exciting things ever going on, and the weather wasn’t as nice as Florida was around this time. Adults walked around with drinks in hands, laughing like they had no responsibilities. From far away she spotted her mom at the “Tiki Bar” laughing with a very muscular tan guy. He almost looked like a Calvin Klein model. Amanda’s mom was toned and fit, there wasn’t a piece of fat on her body. And there she was in her bikini, sipping away. Wow my mom looks better than I ever will.
“Dude Jill, do you see that beautiful guy mom is talking to?
“Oh my gosh! He’s staying in the same hotel as we are.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because when we were getting our room keys he was too.”
Hmm that was interesting. Amanda sprayed some more tanning oil on herself and continued to bake in the sun.
“How was the beach?” Amanda’s dad asked many hours later.
“Oh my! It was wonderful!” her mom responded tripping over nothing. She still had a drink in hand.
“Jessica are you drunk?” her dad asked.
“She made have had a little too much to drink with Mr. Hottie.” Jill joked.
“What are you talking about?”
“Never mind dad, it was just a joke.”
“Whatever, let’s just go to bed, we have things planned for tomorrow.”
“Oh yeah Amanda can you go get another room key my dumb self lost it at the beach.” Jessica said laughing hysterically.
Little did Amanda know her mom had given “Mr. Hottie” the key earlier that day. Annoyed at her mom, Amanda made her way to get the key. Ironically, on the way down to get the key “Mr. Hottie” was in the hallway. He was getting a key also. He looked like a model. She hadn’t gotten the chance to see him up close, but boy was he something else. A little deep down Amanda was jealous her mom was talking to him at the beach.
“Room 504 please, my mom lost the key earlier at the beach, it should be under the name Jessica.” Amanda explained.
“Jessica? Not to get in your business or anything but I met a Jessica at the beach today. You must be her daughter?” Mr. Hottie asked.
“Uhh...yeah.”
“Oh, sorry I should introduce myself, I’m Liam. I met your mother earlier today. Yeah, she’s a wild one that's for sure. You actually look just like her.” he said almost checking Amanda out. Liam was beautiful, but that doesn’t give him the excuse to be creepy.
“Oh yeah, ha.” Amanda awkwardly walked away.
In the middle of the night Amanda woke up from being so uncomfortable from the sunburn she was starting to develop. When she looked around the room, her mom was nowhere to be found. The clock read 2:04 am. Where could she possibly be, especially at this time? Amanda got up in search to find her mom. On the way out of leaving the room, just before Amanda turned the doorknob, she noticed that it was covered in blood. Panicking, she turned it anyways.
“Hi Amanda.” It was Liam.

This piece is a Realistic Fiction. It has some humor in it because I think it's important to have that in stories. I was inspired to write this because I've always wanted to go to Florida and I just made it into the worst case scenerio that I wouldn't want to happen if I ever went there.
