What the Eyes Can Tell, the Lips Cannot
It is just eight in the morning and the sun is hardly seen. The winter had just begun and the weather is cold and pleasant. In the woods far away from the town, was a young girl of 15 sitting all alone; deeply engrossed in her own thoughts.
The girl was constantly searching for someone; someone who was going to support her; someone who would understand her. I saw her eyes. They were very much attractive and descriptive. At the same time I noticed something strange about the eyes. There was depth in her eyes, which I found to be the most strange. They were tired; tired of shedding tears and were desperately searching for a person who would listen to their grief. The eyes were telling an untold story…..
It was about the girl’s best friend; Anoushka. Both of them loved to spend time with each other. They would always be together. But now, the things were different. It had been two years since they met. Anoushka had left for Delhi early last year; and since then, the two friends weren’t in contact. No one knew why Anoushka and her family were in a hurry to reach Delhi; but now, it wasn’t a secret anymore. Everyone knew about it and so did the girl.
Anoushka was suffering from leukaemia; blood cancer, which was diagnosed in the final stage. The doctors had recommended her to shift to Delhi for medical benefits. Anoushka was undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions and was giving a really good response. The doctors believed that the patient would survive; until one day when everything turned upside down.
It was the night of 9 November 2013. It was past 11 and was pouring cats and dogs. Anoushka started to breath heavily and her arms and legs started turning cold. The doctors immediately came to her rescue and shifted her to ICU. She was kept on life support. Somehow, they figured it out that she will not respond to any treatment at that time, but still they did not give up. Suddenly she felt trouble in breathing and the doctors were helpless. She struggled really hard, but she could not make it. It was half past eleven when the world lost a young girl of 15; a cancer patient.
Now sitting beside the girl; I was speechless, thinking how she would be able to cope from the loss of her dear friend at a tender age of 15. I knew everything about her; the reason why she was the way she was and the reason behind her rather deep, sorrowful eyes, except for one thing; I did not know how to console her. I decided to leave her alone; for I felt she was strong enough; strong enough to accept the truth, to support her and to come back in her normal life again.
I turned towards the rising sun, making my way back to the busy streets of the town; trying to stay strong and it was then I could feel my eyes glistening. Slowly, a single tear streamed down my eyes, followed by many; until all the emotions were released which I kept in till now. I took no notice of my tears. All I was worried about was the girl back in the woods, more specially her eyes; yes, the same eyes that were so interpretive and narrated a happening which apparently shook the girl and was emotional indeed. Well it is true, “What the eyes can tell; the lips cannot.”
