A Pleasant Day

The sun filters through the window so elegantly at this early hour. I haven’t gotten around to sketching it yet, which is quite a shame on my part. I love how the dust drifts through the air as it gets illuminated by the sun. The valley has its way of making the sun come in at just the right angle to capture the quaintness of it all. Sadly, there’s no time to sit around and enjoy the simple life, I have my sheep to tend to. I head outside and enjoy the spring air as I call out for Dutchess, my little collie. Its her first day of training and I am ready to go. I walk down to the creek to look for her, and it seems she’s already made some friends. Two little girls from the village sit by the water and were petting Dutchess as I came along. She seemed to be content with them, and the girls were certainly content with her.
“I’m sure glad she stopped running to greet you two. Who knows how far she could have gone if you two weren’t here to pet her!” I exclaim. The girls both smile.
“We’re glad we could help!” they shout in unison. The little blonde one furrows her brow.
“I guess we have to let you take her back now,” she sighed. The little girl was right, I really need to start her training.
“Well...” I hesitate, “I suppose I could put off her training for a few more minutes.” The girls’ faces lit up, beaming with excitement. I let them play with Dutchess for another twenty minutes, but I absolutely had to get back to training her.
We wave eachother goodbye and I head back to my house, Dutchess following close behind. The air is fresh and easy to breathe, and the walk home is nothing short of ideal. I brought Dutchess over to an open patch of the field, but all she wants to do was sleep. With each command I try to use, she simply lays down, occasionally rolling around playfully to show that she is trying. I guess now’s not the right time, but the day is still young. I go back inside, and see that perfect lighting still remains. My sketch pad lies in the corner, dusty from disuse. It’s time to fix that.
