A Child's First Visit to Kindermender Pediatric Urgent Care Center
Dear Diary,
I jumped on my trampoline today. One of the times I jumped I fell on the floor and I got a boo boo on my leg. It really hurt so I was crying and Mommy had to pick me up and take me to the car. When I asked Mommy where we were going she said “the doctor”. I don’t like the doctor because they give me shots and sometimes the doctor makes me open my mouth wide. I told Mommy that I did not want to go because I was very scared of the shots. Mommy told me I wouldn’t get a shot but I was still scared. But when we went inside I saw minions on the TV and Elsa was singing. I also saw a Choo Choo train! It was Thomas, the blue one. He was moving! Maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as I thought it would be. Then a tall guy smiled and said “hey there big guy”! I felt good. He told me to stand on the scale which was boring but I wasn’t allowed to walk around until the scale beeped. My leg was still hurting. Then he took me and my mommy to a room. There were pretty colors and rabbits on the wall. The tall man took my temperature and then we waited for the doctor. After the doctor came in she took me to another colorful room. She said I was getting an X Ray and I had to put my leg up on the table so she could take a picture. She took us back to our room, and put some hard stuff on my leg. It felt weird at first, but I got used to it. The doctor was very nice and she smiled, which made me feel better. Then she brought me crutches and I tried to walk around in them, which was very hard. Then, the tall guy gave me a lollipop and a sticker, and we went back home. I am so happy I didn’t get a shot, and these crutches are kind of fun. I am very glad I went to the doctor today.
Bye diary!
Love,
Zach

This is inspired by my internship at Kindermender pediatric urgent care center. I saw many kids scared of coming into the center. By reading this, I hope that kids will be less afraid of visiting the doctor, especially at this friendly urgent care practice.
