June 18th
It was June 18th, a night I would never forget. The party of the summer. Sophomore year had finally ended and I was invited to my first upper class party. A few hours before the party my friend Alyssa came over to get ready with me. We started with our outfits; ripped shorts, a crop top, and a pair of white converse. We curled our hair in loose ringlets, and I swear it felt like we sprayed almost a gallon of hairspray in our hair. She painted my nails bright red and I painted hers pink. We couldn't have been more ready for this party. The last thing we needed was alcohol. We snuck downstairs into my parents liquor cabinet and grabbed a bottle of moscato. I called my friend Liam to come pick us up so he could take us to the party. He was the designated driver of the group. When he arrived we hopped in the car and spun off the cap to wine. I took three huge gulps and Alyssa smash back half of it. I could tell it was going to be one hell of a night. We approached a big yellow house with blue shutters. Cars were lined up on both sides of the driveway and all down the road. There had to be at least 100 kids there. We had to park all the way down the road because it was the only open spot. Red solo cups covered the ground. Music played all through the house. Everywhere you looked there were people. I swear half of those kids didn't even go to our school. Alyssa grabbed my hand and pulled me over to the bonfire. She had this major crush on this senior named Seth Hayes. He was the star of the basketball team, and all the girls loved him.
“Look there he is!” Alyssa gasped.
I wasn't a big fan of Seth at all because he seemed like your typical player, but I didn't want to burst her bubble.
“Maybe you should go talk to him” I suggested.
She gave me this look and started inching closer to him, and I started inching further away from the bonfire, closer to the house. People swarmed around the garage; tables were set up for beer pong, and circles formed of people smoking. I stood there for a minute trying to take it all in. This was unlike anything I had ever seen before. It almost felt as if I was in a dream. I started to make my way over to the door entering the house when I felt a hand touch my lower back. I turned around to see Seth behind me.
“What are you doing?” I asked with a look of discussed on my face.
“You’re Haily right?” He questioned me
“Yeah that’s right” I stated
“You wanna go take some shots with me? Seth asked
I stood there for a minute trying to figure out what was happening to me. I couldn’t have been more confused. Seth was talking to me when he should’ve been talking to Alyssa. But what could a couple shots hurt? I mean I had to make sure he was good enough for Alyssa, right?
“Sure” I choked
We walked inside the house together; even more people were inside. I followed him over to the kitchen table where shot glasses and bottles of vodka laid out. He grabbed the strawberry smirnoff and poured two shots for us. I reached for one of the shot glasses and he grabbed the other. We looked at one another and clinked our glasses together and threw back the shot. A burning sensation followed the vodka down my throat, and warmth sat in my stomach.
We sat down on an old bench in the dining room, as I watched people slam back beer. Next thing you know I look down at my thigh to see Seth's hand resting there.
“What are you doing?” I yelled.
“To be honest I’ve had the biggest crush on you ever since I saw you for the first time” He uttered.
I grabbed his hand and ripped it off, “What? You don’t know anything about me.
I’m going to go use the bathroom, maybe we can finish this conversation after” I proclaimed.
I started to stumble over to the line of people waiting to use the bathroom. There was probably about 20 people in that line and by the time they all went I would have already peed myself. I made my way over to the stairs and walked up. There were 3 doors on each side of the hallway; I turned right and chose the first door. I entered a bedroom where I saw a couple making out with each other on top of the bed and slammed the door shut as quick as I could. I saw a person down the hall a little further and asked if they knew where the bathroom was up here, and they pointed to the door beside them.
After using the bathroom I walked down stairs to see if Seth was still there, and he was sitting in the exact place I had left him. I started making my way over to him when I heard a scream. Everyone ran over to the living room and started forming a circle around someone. I couldn't get a good look at what was happening.
“Whats going on?” I questioned.
“Looks like this girl drank too much and fainted. Someone said she hit her head pretty hard when she fell.” This guy replied.
“Someone call 911 quick!” A voice yelled.
Next thing you know cops and ambulances start to arrive and the kids start to leave. When I got home that night I immediately got grounded for going to the party. The girl who passed out ended up being okay luckily. That was one of the most insane nights I have ever had by far, and It was definitely one I will never forget. June 18th, one for the books.
