Disaster Day
“Good luck at volleyball tryouts today sweetie” Mom yelled from upstairs as I scarfed down my cheerios.
“MOM stop calling me that i'm thirteen years old not five” Grace yelled sassily to her mother. Grace had been playing volleyball since she was eight and now it was time for her to start playing Club. She was now going to travel the state of North Carolina.
After Grace finished her bowl of cheerios, she quickly ran upstairs and threw on her favorite purple shirt, a pair of dark blue denim jeans, a swish of black mascara. They were off to Parkview Middle School.
When Grace arrived at Parkview she saw her two best friends Ava and Harper. Harper, the drama queen of the group, had yet another amazing story to tell about softball practice. And how her crush Danny had Baseball practice that night and they had talked for a whole five minutes after they had both had both finished practice. After giving us all of the specifics of what they talked about Ava rolled her eyes.
“Does she always have to be the first with the big boy news?” Ava thought to herself.
“What's your deal why are you in such a bad mood, would it kill you to be happy for me?” Harper said.
Little did Harper know that Ava too liked Danny too.
“What your not going to stand up for me either are you Grace, you always take Ava’s side,” Harper yelled at Grace.
“Ok look, we are both really sorry, can you forgive us?” Ava asked.
“Hey we better get to math the bell is about to ring,’’ Grace budded in.
The three girls walked down the sidewalk, talking about the amount of stress they were under, the cute boys of seventh grade, and their weekend plans at the mall.
Harper, Ava, and Grace all showed up to Mr. Johnson's room with only seconds to spare. Once they had sat down and started their warm up and lesson.
Ava got a very concerned look on her face then Grace looked at Ava with that same very concerned look.
“The tsunami has hit” Grace yelled through the whole room.
In that second everyone in that room started to panic looking down at their feet and realizing their feet now swimming in water. Not surprisingly Harper started to cry and Mr. Johnson quickly evacuated us to higher grounds.
Four hours had passed and the whole school was quickly going underwater the room Mr. Johnson took us to which we called the tsunami room was slowly starting to go under and there was nothing we could do about. Ava and Grace finally got Harper calmed down and letting her know that she wasn't going to die without saying goodbye to her parents.
Tick, Tok, Tick, Tok,Grace’s eyes were glued to the clock and the sound of the clock had become the only thing she could focus on. Another hour had went by and the water was now up to everyone's mid section. Feet kicking, breath gasping the children of Parkview middle school were very quickly becoming concerned.
Grace finally unglued herself from the clock but only for a second to glance at the door because there she thought had heard a knock at the door. It was the principle of the whole school Mrs. Rodriguez.
“Students we are very quickly going under and we need to move you to higher grounds.” She said.
Terrified and afraid they all froze.
In that moment Grace thought to herself, “how are we going to get down.” The tormented children, scared and overwhelmed, quickly followed Mrs. Rodriguez’s instructions. In the end all of the kids were ok and they all got to see their parents but Grace never did get to go to volleyball tryouts that night. So Grace went another year practicing and made the best team the next year.
