Life is Strange
In the world of High School, there are many things that can mess with or change the young mind. People have their dreams and many people actually strive for them, that’s what anyone should do. In Newton High School, senior William Polk confronts things in school and in the atmosphere of the town of Adams. A tiny town in Portland, Oregon. The attitude and emotions of the youth are not to be taken for granted.
Will is a 17 year old boy who is the youngest of 3 siblings, 2 loving parents who work very hard, but are also very strict. Will gets along with everyone, but probably tries to have a little more fun and not take his future seriously. Maybe not not taking his future seriously, but really struggles with what to do with it. There’s too much to take in from the life of High School to talk about, but in the recent days there has been a loss of hope for Will. Concerning his grades and what exactly he will do in the future.
William has been a person who cares about everyone he meets and just wants to be happy. As life goes on, something dark grows within. Something that is breaking him down and is fighting with that light that has given Will his great personality. High School has introduced drugs to Will’s life. Now, Will is smart enough that they are bad, but the darkness within wants it. Doing the bad things just amplified his feelings of sorrow and guilt. Of course this is just High School experimenting, but it still makes a difference.
Will thinks all the time to himself, I know I am better than this and I want to prove that to myself. A fight within himself erupts like the Civil War. His only fear is losing respect from his friends and family. Will wants to do things like; being an astronaut from his love of space, Becoming an actor from his favorite movies.
It was at the point when all Will’s father had to do was give a simple command, to set him off. Will gets angry and writes a letter directed to his father saying things like,
“I think that I’m old enough now to make my own decisions” and “You never listen to me which is why I’m writing this letter.”
This is how the period of depression began for Will. Will many small things in his life, like looking up at the stars at night or playing with his friends. Something he doesn’t enjoy, which is pretty sad, is that he doesn’t enjoy spending time with his family.
While this is happening, Will attends school regularly, but with the wrong attitude of depression. Will stick to himself and doesn’t talk to anyone for the day until his friend Brant, notices that he’s been “off” today. So William opens up about his issues to Brant.
“You gotta just push through all this because life after High School gets a lot better and you get to make a lot of your own decisions,” says Brant
“I just wanna do what I want,” said Will “I just wanna go beyond this town and I know it sounds weird, but I wanna explore the universe.”
“You can dude, you just have to get through this year and then you can do anything,” was the encouragement that comes from Brant.
Will really takes it all in and rethinks everything he’s thought recently, I just have positive about everything.
Of course Will’s parents confront him about the letter and basically say the same as Brant. They say things like “We always have your back and and you need to understand that we listen and only want the best for you.”
Will knows all of this already because they are family and when talking to his parents only tries to hold back tears.
“We love you” says Will’s parents
Will’s parents are therapists when this issue comes up. So Will takes all of his friends and family’s words in and makes the epic decision to be positive and happy. He learns that if he does this, then everything in his life will be happy.
William had a dream, a very disturbing dream the night he talked to his parents. It is a dream of Will in the middle of a war. There are explosions and bullets flying everywhere. Will loves superheros and Superhero movies, so in the dream he has the power of Telekinesis and the ability to move things with his mind. So in the battle, a man comes running at Will with a terrifying mask. Will uses his powers to snap the neck of the person who was about to kill him and reveals his identity. It was Will. Will screams and wakes up. He gets ready and goes to school accordingly. Will can’t help, but feel really good and just want to be nice. Throughout the day he says “hi!” to everyone and wonders how their day has been. He does all work and everything he’s been avoiding. Will goes home and does everything he needs to do. At the end of the day, Will realizes that, he had created his own demon and that the person in his dream, was his demon. At the end of the fight, good prevails and Will is with peace again.
