Perseverance
Annoying, ugly, and worthless, her lack of confidence drained her. Self-love is hard to find within yourself nowadays, especially in a society that thrives from your self-doubt and envies your confidence. Aidette wasn’t an exception to these absurd mentalities.
Her mindset, which was as dark as the night, didn’t help her from draining all her efforts of trying to be and see herself in a better light. The problem was not only her but the society she lived in. Aidette whispered to herself, “Wow,” as she read a famous quote she stumbled upon online. The quote was from a book she had seen a couple of times, so you could tell how many people loved it but she had never bothered to stop and read it. However, this quote stood out to her; the quote was by Rupi Kaur and it read, “Loneliness is a sign that you are in desperate need of yourself.” Aidette was struck by how much she understood and related to it, she felt for a second like someone finally understood her through the quote.
She now understood, she didn't need a boy to mend her heart like she had been trying to do. Aidette needed to learn how to love herself. The amount of time she spent on trying to find love from others she should and could find within herself. From then on, that’s what Aidette did. The next day she spent time alone, reading a book, listening to music, doing her homework, and not once did she feel like slipping herself back into a dark hole.
Suddenly, she felt as if the world was closing in on her. She had been doing so well for the past few months yet she felt as though she was back where she started. No lights at the end of the tunnel, black surroundings, painful times, and suffering, that’s how her day went. After so much progress, why had she gone back to feeling the way she did at the start? Aidette looked herself in the mirror and repeatedly said, “We all have bad days.”
She found a way to crawl out of the horrific hole she had got herself into once, she could find a way out of it again. Although it may seem as though things don’t get better they indeed do. After the bad day, she knew that tomorrow the sun would rise on the horizon filling the earth with soothing colors, and she would have a new shot at making the day a good day. Aidette woke up the next day and with the positive mindset she had developed over time, told herself it was going to be a good day and she wouldn’t let anyone ruin it.
The next day, at school, she was asked, “How do you stay so positive Aidette?” from a girl she would talk to occasionally. Aidette smiled to herself as she remembered the progress she had made within herself and thought how the girl had no idea just how much she struggled on a day-to-day basis. Aidette replied back saying, “I learned that I need to love myself, appreciate the fact that I am alive and have so much to live for” the girl nodded, Aidette continued, “you are living for you and only you, make the best you can out of your life.”
Aidette knew that she still had bumps down the road but with her new outlook on life she could only hope the bumps would shape her and not break her. The best thing to Aidette in the short years she had lived was learning to feel comfortable in her skin and growing to love everything about herself: size, color, everything. Aidette was refreshed and felt like someone was handing her a new diary. However, in this diary she was going to make sure she began it with a good outlook.
