For as long as I can remember I always felt a soul connection with my

baby Labrador Retriever, Roxxy. The first moment my mom introduced the proposition of
bringing in a dog from the shelter, my third grader self was very neglective to the idea of it,
and strongly disagreed with the idea of even having a dog in our house.
As time passed, and I slowly began to forget about the dog my mom was
proposing to get from the nearest shelter. Until Thursday afternoon after a long day when the
sun began to slowly set, I opened the door to enter and I received the warmest welcome from
a baby Labrador with big brown eyes that I began to drown in. As she jumped on my stomach
and rapidly licked my forehead repeatedly, I knew that this was possibly, if not, the best day
of my life. With the best gift I couldn’t have asked for. From the minute I laid eyes on her I
knew I wanted her name to be Roxxy, she was so hyper and had a smile that could even make
the devil happy.
My love for Roxxy has done nothing but increase ever since the day I met her.
From comforting me through becoming a middle schooler, to getting me through
my first ever break up. Even after my parents divorce when I was entering my
senior year of highschool, adding to all the stress of applying to colleges, and
finally becoming an adult, Roxxy was my comfort that I looked to even when I felt
abandoned by the ones who loved me the most. As I grew older, Roxxy grew with
me as well. Not only with size but also building her own tiny family by birthing two baby
puppies. Seeing Roxxy show her baby puppies the love that she showed me as a baby puppy
herself was an irreplaceable moment in my life that really showed me my true definition of
love, and how we have to build that love through our actions.
Displacement of love through Pets: The love that we share with our childhood pets is
a love that is usually undermined, and never displayed when speaking about different types of
love that we experience it in our lifetimes. Our pets that we come home to every night are
most likely more loyal than the people in our day to day lives that we call our best
friends. Roxxy never chose anyone over me and not only loved me when I needed
abundance but helped me when I was lost and seeking direction. Life works in wondrous ways,
as she grew from a puppy into a mature dog, anytime I look at Roxxy, I always see the baby
puppy I fell head first for in third grade.

I'm a sophomore student at Anoka High School who is obsessed with romantic fiction novels, being apart of this assignment, and being able to vocalize my awareness of "Love&Relationships" through creativity meant alot to me deeply. I hope you guys enjoy it!
