Forever
“I love you forever” he says.
“Forever is useless” I mutter.
I stare into his deep eyes. I can tell that he really does love me. Doesn’t everyone think this? That they are loved?
“I love you during the spring”
he whispers holding me gently.
What about the other seasons?
“And the winter”.
“How about fall”?
I whisper back.
“Forever is forever”. He kisses me lightly.
“And summer”? I whisper.
I hold him tightly. I don’t want his warmth to go away. I know inside that I will be weak without it.
He holds me for a while, and then says
“I love you during the winter, the fall, the summer, and the spring. No matter what. I’ll always be here”.
I feel tears coming and I wipe them away making them come faster, harder.
“I want to believe you, I just can’t. Babe, I love you, I just don’t know about forever. Forever is useless.”
I look again into his eyes, and I see comfort.
“I still love you forever” he whispers.
He walks away into the night.
I can still smell his cologne.
Even after his steps.
One, Two, Three.
“And a day”, I whisper.
That’s when I know that forever isn’t useless. Because I love him forever, just as much as he loves me.
I run to him, and I say confidently “I love you forever”.
