He’s silent. So silent. She’s never heard him this silent before. It’s deafening.
She’s staring at her knees, the blue and white polka dots halfway covering them. Her hands are clenched, knuckles white.
Maybe she shouldn’t have said anything. She shouldn’t have even brought it up. Why? Why did she? Just move on, it wasn’t even that much of a problem really. Why did she say anything at all?
He’s silent. So silent. Say something. Anything. Please just talk. This silence, the roar of the tires of that white Nissan Altima down Dickson Road, stop please.
"Hey." Finally. "There’s something I need to tell you, too…"
Suddenly she wished he would have stayed silent.
