A Devil At a Birthday Party
Revised Work: A Devil at a Birthday Party
A Screenplay
Revised Work:
EXT. DEAN’S BACKYARD - DAY
KIDS jumping and swimming and screaming in the pool, MOMs can be seen through the windows of the house FRANTICALLY taking pictures and setting up food. There is music playing in the background. Candy, cake, and food set up on the table. ANGEL and DEVIl arrive at the party. Devil is a seventeen-year-old girl bored out of her mind. Angel, who is also seventeen,is constantly keeping or trying to keep Devil out of trouble. DEAN is the birthday boy, his family is hosting the pool party in his backyard. The backyard is big and has slides and floaties in the pool. It is big, modern, and kid-friendly. Angel has a happy warm smile on his face while Devil has a mean frown on hers and is wearing a black top HAT.
ANGEL
This party looks like a success!
Look how much fun they’re all
having. Isn’t is lovely, Devil?
DEVIL
(gives Angel a dirty
look)
What do you mean, Angel?
This party is too perfect,
The kids are having more
fun than they should be.
It’s time for me to have
some fun.
(Smirks viciously)
ANGEL
(Looks at Devil confused)
There is no such thing as too
much fun. They all look happy
and are enjoying themselves,
we shouldn’t bother them. I
think we should leave before
we cause too much fuss, I know
Deans’ mom wasn’t too excited
about having us.
DEVIL
(Gives Angel a nasty
smirk)
I think we should change
things up a little, time for
Us...
(stutters)
Or at least me, to have a little fun.
(Eyes wide and glistening)
I have an idea!
Devil begins to walk towards the pool. His pace is fast and Angel runs behind him, struggling to keep up.
Devil
(turns his head to
face Angel but continues
to walk forward)
C’mon Angel, catch up! If
We want to drown a kid we
have to fast and slick.
ANGEL
(chases after Devil yelling)
No! Devil, stop walking right now!
Are you crazy? You can’t drown
these kids!
DEVIL
(Keeps walking towards
the pool smiling from
ear to ear)
Said who?
ANGEL
(Running and screaming
and waving her arms in
a crazy fashion)
Me! Stop! Come back here.
DEAN’S MOM STORMS into the backyard. She walks right into the commotion of Angel. Devil runs right into her causing her to become more mad and frustrated.
Dean’s Mom
(Angry and annoyed)
What is happening here? Angel, I
didn’t expect this from you,
please behave and control yourself.
ANGEL
(turns away from Devil
and faces Dean’s mom.
speaks in a quiet soft
voice yet she is panting)
I’m so, so sorry, Mrs. Smith,
I’m trying to get Devil
under control, I really am.
It’s just a lot harder than
it looks.
DEAN’S MOM
I’m not talking about him,
I’m talking about you. Control
yourself please.
ANGEL
I apologize. I just need
to find Devil. He is frustrating
me very much. I promise to
control myself and her.
DEAN’S MOM
Ok, I’ll trust
you to deal with him, just
don’t cause any more
Commotion. And please, when you
have him tamed, leave.
(rolls her eyes)
ANGEL
I’m so sorry. Please excuse
me, Mrs. Smith. I have to
stop Devil from doing something
very, very bad. I’ll make sure
that Devil and I leave as soon
as possible.
Angel turns away from Dean’s mom and searches the backyard for Devil. Dean’s mom has turned around and is walking back towards the house. She turns back around every few seconds. At this point Devil is at the the edge of the pool.
DEVIL
Angel. Just come help me drown
Them. It’s not that big of a deal,
it’ll be fun and it’s not like
they’re going to live forever.
Devil searches the pool for her first victim. One kid, in particular, catches her eye, it’s Dean. Devil grins a big toothy grin and draws out her claws to attack. Devil tips his hat causing an invisible cloak to cover his body. Angel sprints behind her to stop her but can no longer see where she is.
ANGEL
(screaming and yelling in
all directions)
Devil, are you crazy? You can’t
drown anyone. Stop! Take your
cloak off and let’s go home, now!
DEVIl
I can do whatever I want, you’ve
never stopped me before, what makes
you think you can now?
ANGEL
(yells and tackles
where she thinks the
voice is coming from.)
This.
Angel runs and jumps. She hits bullseye and ends up tackling Devil to the ground.
DEVIL
(yelling)
Angel, what are you doing? Get
off of me. You’re going to blow my
cover and make me miss my chance.
ANGEL
(exclaimed and agitated voice)
Good. You can’t drown a kid.
Especially not at a
birthday party.
DEVIL
(Pulling away from Angel)
C’mon Angel, one kid, c’mon,
please? I’ll be quick, no one
will even know. Look around,
(Hand gestures to motion to
the audience)
all of them have been waiting this
whole scene for me to drown a kid.
Just let me drown him!
ANGEL
(yells)
No. What do you not understand
about that? No one in the audience
wants to watch a kid die anyways.
Let’s just go home. Drown as many
kids as you want somewhere else.
Devil breaks loose from Angel's grip and rearranges her cloak to cover her entire body. As she walks closer and closer into the pool she suddenly trips over her cloak. She falls into the pool, uncovering her identity and soaking herself
ANGEL
See that’s what you get, loser.
DEVIL
Yeah well, at least I had a little bit of fun.
Angel rolls her eyes and flies away into the sky without looking back. Devil watches her leave.
DEVIL
(smiling)
Who’s the loser now? You just
left me unsupervised and still
at the party. The pool is still
full of kids having too much fun.
Perfect!

This is a screenplay about a devil and an angel at a birthday party. Devil, with her malicious definition of fun, decides to start a fuss and Angel has to try to control her.
