Jenny

Jenny’s mom

The setting is in Jenny’s bedroom. 

She is alone with her phone reading

text messages from people around the school

She is sitting on top of her bed, 

there is a nightstand next to her. 

The lights are dim and it is silent except 

for dinging messages on her phone. 

Her phone screen is bright, illuminating her face.

*Jenny’s mom walks in from stage right*

JENNY’S MOM

Hey Jen, how was school?

JENNY

*Sighs with frustration while continuing to look down at her phone* 

Good.

Ding. Ding. 

JENNY’S MOM

(looking angry and surprised)

I was just asking Jen, relax. 

Ding. 

JENNY

*Turning towards her mom*

I didn’t ask you to. 

*Turns back towards phone*

Just leave me alone. 

Ding. 

*Jenny’s mom walks off the stage to the right, the text messages Jenny is receiving play over a speaker and the lights dim except the phone light*

ANONYMOUS CLASSMATE 1

Text 1: No one likes you Jenny, when are you going to realize that? It would be better if you died then came to school tomorrow. 

Text 2: Did you know that everyone laughed when you walked into class today? You should feel humiliated. 

ANONYMOUS CLASSMATE 2

Text 1: Go kill yourself, you’re even embarassing to look at. But what are you going to do about it? You’re too stupid to know how to fix yourself. 

ANONYMOUS CLASSMATE 3

Text 1: Did you look in the mirror before you came to school in that outfit? Are you even trying to fit in? 

*The lights come on*

JENNY

*filling with tears and sniffling*

(whisper)

What did I do wrong?

All of the lights turn off and the scene changes to a bathroom. Jenny is standing with her hands resting on the sink, looking in the mirror above it. She is bawling and her makeup is running all down her eyes. There is a toilet on her left and a shower with a white curtain on her right. 

JENNY

*Opens the mirror slowly to reveal pill bottles. She stops and looks down, with a contemplative look on her face. She reaches up towards a pill bottle, takes it, and sits down facing the audience.*

All the lights turn off. The curtain closes. The sound of a pill bottle opening and pills flowing out plays. There is silence for 10 seconds. The sound of a door opening plays along with a scream by Jenny’s mom.
