That Day

Jules always thought her cat had a staring problem. But it was not until that day, Jules realized that her cat was not looking at her face, the cat was always looking behind her. Ever since that day, Jules lived in fear. After seeing what happened to her little sister, Marianne, she was always paranoid to what was behind her. That day haunts Jules in her sleep, when all she sees her little sister’s face yelling for help.
Attending the funeral was beyond torture for Jules. The sky was blue like the ocean, and the sun beamed over. It might have been the constant muffled screams she heard, or the fear someone would notice the dirt on her hands. As Jules tried to sit through the service, flashbacks from that day played in her head over and over again. Her mother tried talking to Jules, as she fidgeted with her hands in nervous anticipation, but Jules zoned her out. She zoned everyone out until the service was over.  As the days passed, Jules wanted to explain to her mother that Marianne would not stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night. Jules visits her grave and asks her to stop, but it does not help. Jules’s mother was very worried for Jules. Her behavior began to grow even more erratic over time. She always caught Jules rocking back and forth, or fidgeting with her hands.
Jules woke up one morning and everything seemed off. It was far too quiet outside. She looked out her window and noticed a girl. The only problem was that Jules’s room was on the third floor.
