Many schools today are debating to let their students have social media access at school. Now I know that they have access to it at home, but they’re monitored by their parents. Their parents know what they’re doing online and who they’re sending messages to.

Social Media is a hotspot for cyber bullying. If something happens at school, one thing leads to another and it’s all over the internet. It could ruin your child’s life. You don’t want that, do you? Suicide is the third leading cause of death. It results in about 4,400 deaths per year and bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to commit suicide. 160,000 kids stay home every day for fear of bullying.

There are a lot of predators online searching for vulnerable kids online. A 50-year-old man could pretend to be a 16-year-old boy, and get a young girl to do about anything. These kids are feeling insecure and just want somebody to like them, so they’ll fall for it.

Schools monitor what kids do on their internet, but anything could go wrong. I know from experience that I could connect to a different Wi-Fi from the school, and do anything I wanted on it.

Young kids may often feel intimidated by what they see on social media. They may think that everybody is better than them just because they post an awesome picture. A kid may feel sad or down because somebody has more followers than they do or if they have more likes on a picture.

The Internet, especially social media, is a bad place for kids when they are at school. You don’t want that in your environment. School is supposed to be considered a safe place, but it can’t be if all this bad stuff is going on. I strongly support those school that do not allow kids on social media at school. They should keep enforcing this rule so their student can be and feel safer.

I hope people realize what's going on around them and try to help those who they know are suffering from things on social media. I also hope that kids read this, and got to thier principals or their school board and read them my essay. So they'll deny kids social media access.
