Environmental Solutions

We make copious amounts of garbage. One estimate is 1,800 pounds per person, per year. (1) We need to do better and recycle or reuse the garbage we produce, otherwise it goes to landfills and emits more carbon to the environment. My idea is to collect organic waste. Many families throw used vegetable oil in the trash. Restaurants have a little more regulations they follow but that is also a valuable source of used oil. We can recycle that oil and use it to fuel the motorized bicycles that are more and more common and in use. We can also use organic waste to compost at community centers and then give it out free to the community as fertilizer. Change needs to come from the community but it also needs to be global. With unlimited resources, I vote to contain all the toxic chemicals in landfills, mining operations, and other places and send them to the dark side of the moon where it can be contained and not threaten any life forms. These chemicals and pollutants take so long to decompose, they are essentially forever toxins. The best course is to remove it, and place it where it will do no harm. Then, try to start being conscious about how we use our resources and to decrease the amount of garbage we produce.
