The Bus
I read the poem, “The Bus’ by Vinny Malut. It was a very detailed poem, and I enjoyed it immensely. He tells us how he feels about the bus, and what it’s like to be inside it. Being inside is like being in “the belly of the beast”, and he sees the bus as a monster. I used to take the bus, and I agree that it smells like “the burning of gasoline”, and that “the rumbling never seems to end.” When I read the sentence, “Outside is a blur, but inside stays still”, this made me remember when I took the bus, I would always watch the outside world pass by me fast, while I sat still in the long, cramped bus. My favorite stanza was:
“In the belly of the beast,
Interred in a metal cage,
Separated from the world,
Watching it go by”
This was my favorite part of the poem because it made me think of a bus differently. It made me think of the bus being a monstrous creature, trapping people from the world. It makes me think about how happy I am to not have to take the bus anymore.
