One night I was getting off of work, and it was around 9:30.  I got to my front doorstep and I was searching for my key.  I couldn’t find my key but I knew my mom had one hidden under the grill that belonged to my grandma.  I noticed one SUV circling the block and knew it was a police officer.  The third time around he stopped and flickered his lights at me while I looked for the house key.  He ran up onto the porch with his taser out, he yelled at me to freeze and get down on my knees.  Then he told me I was being detained.  While that was happening I kept yelling “Why”?

I recognized the officer as Mr. Bob and already knew he was racist.  He searched me for weapons.  I was crying for my mom and dad to come out of the house and help me.  He read me my rights while I was in the back of the car handcuffed like a criminal.  Mr. Bob went up and knocked on the door to my house.  When my dad answered, he told my dad that he found someone breaking into the house.  My dad asked to see who it was. When he looked in the car he said “That’s  my daughter!”

My mom came out then to see what was going on.  My dad ran back into the house and found my birth certificate.  He showed the officer who hadn’t believed him when he tried to tell him the first time.  Officer Bob apologized after he saw what he had done.  My mom came over to the SUV and helped me out.  It just seemed to me like every day was something else.  We all went into the house, my dad locked up behind us.  My key was on the dining room table.  We had a family talk, my parents told me to be more cautious, to have my key, and stay safe.

When my grandma found out about Mr. Bob being the officer she took him to court.  It wasn’t the first time he did an illegal search looking for someone else.
